Hi,
There is another player in your system. I have had no problems on my test systems or the networked work computer like you describe. What security software is installed and current? Have you run any scans with any of the other available free scanners?

Keep us posted

Re: Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe STILL crashes Firefox and Chrome

Hi, Rogerror. You should only have one real time program in use. That would be Norton. Just use the other scanners as passive back up scanners only.

My advice would be to uninstall Spybot, as it is no longer the effective program it used to be.

However if you wish to keep it { I wouldn't. I uninstalled it }, then ensure the Teatimer function is not checked, as that can cause problems.

Also, whenever I update Firefox I always run Live Updates first, and then download a full copy from Mozilla, and install that over the previous version.

That way, I have no compatibility problems with Firefox and Norton.

Thanks F4E,

I do only have Norton IS on real time. No Teatimer - always was a problem.

I'll try a full install of Firefox and Chrome, I normally just let them self update.

Please let us all know in a few days if you are still crash free.  I am also having Firefox crashes that I think are related to the Norton Toolbar.  I usually see several crashes a day, but occasionally I go a few days without a crash.  So 10 stable hours would't be enough time for me to be able to say the problem is fixed.

I am reluctant to do a full install of Firefox because I use five different Firefox profiles and I'm not sure what a full install does to an installation with multiple profiles.  I usually only have to set up the profiles when I get a new computer or completely reinstall the operating system on the computer, so it is a long enough time ago that i have forgotten how to set it up and I'll have to relearn exactly how to do it.

If a full install of firefox does fix the problem, I'd be interested if the crashes start again when Firefox is updated again.

Hi, pdxman1. I think Firefox would back up all your profiles, but I could be wrong. Someone may correct me on this.

The full install seems to work better than using the in browser update option.

Unfortunately crashes seem to have increased each day, now gone back to disabling Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe unless I need it, then closing & running cc cleaner.

I'm on Vista Ultimate, FF30.0 and Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe 2014.7.2.6; the new version hasn't yet reached me on Live Update. When it does 'll try another full install of FF.

Live Update has now given me a "new" Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe 2014.7.3.12. Fingers crossed

Pita! No better than previous after significant use.

Re: Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe STILL crashes Firefox and Chrome

Hi, Rogerror. You might want to consider a reinstall of Norton, to give you a clean install.

That may help with the crashes. I'd suggest using the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool. http://www.norton.com/nrnr

At least with a clean Norton install, you will know that the problem may lie elsewhere.

If you use it, be sure to read the Before you begin note and run Live Update after, until no more are found.

A reboot won't hurt, either.

Re: Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe STILL crashes Firefox and Chrome

FF has been crashing since FF28. I have FF30 and NIS 21.4.0.13 and after surfing a while with the vault open if I click on the Vault,  FF will crash. Its not as often but still there. I have a Local vault so a re-install is not going to happen. Seem to be a problem with the FF addons system and it will probably get fixed by dumb luck some day as FF keeps new versions coming. FF site shows lots of these crashes.

I have the latest updates. Norton TB 2014.7.3.12. Did first logins without overinstalling FF (latest version) FF crashed on first log in! Overinstalled FF and working well though not perfect. Can't say solved but can now get through a load of logins without prolonged FF not responding. I'll try a remove and reinstall of NIS when I feel like taking the time and risk!

Hi, Rogerror. A reinstall may just clean up this issue. If you have broadband, you could be up and running with a fresh install in a round 10 minutes with the NRRT.

I have consistent crashes of my FF since a very long time as well. This happens because of Norton IDVault. I tried everything, but no success. Nothing and no one can help, and just Norton developers should find a definite solution for that problem since a lot of users suffer from it.

My Configuration:

-----------------------

Windows 8.1-64 Pro

Firefox 30.0

Norton 360  21.4.0.13

Norton Tollbar Add-On 2014.7.3.12

An issue with Windows 8/8.1 is the Fast Start feature. With this enabled, you never actually get a full shutdown, which is needed by Norton, and other programs, every once in a while to fully update itself. See this information from Windows Eight Forums on how to turn off this feature. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6320-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-8-a.html

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe STILL crashes Firefox and Chrome

Jim's post accurately describes my experience since FF 28. Using the drop down login menu of the Vault Is Open element of the NIS tool bar is no use as it crashes after a time as Jim describes. I have to have the logins window open and select logins from there which is an extra step I've never had to do in the years I've used ID Safe.

As my subscription was up for renewal I did a Uninstall and fresh install, updated to latest version 21.4.0.13 and all other live updates and then did a fresh install of FF30. Everything is up to date but the problem persists. Very irritating.

Sollutions would be apprecitated.
