Norton Utilities 14 - registry question

I have Norton Utilities 14 and when I scanned the registry, it keeps finding one error.  The file is listed as ... maillist.exe and shows up as a registry error.  If I go to the location listed by Norton's Utilities, I can see the maillist.exe file.  I've run the program several times to try to repair the error but for some reason it shows up as ignored.   What should I do to correct this registry error?

Re: Norton Utilities 14 - registry question

Hi PC_confused,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

There are occasional benign registry errors I have seen come up on mine as well where the error is re-detected at some later point. In the cases I have seen it is because the application involved reinstates the entry into the registry so NU keeps detecting it  on subsequent scans.

If this same error comes up repeatedly for you, you can configure NU to exclude this on subsequent scans.

To do this, go through the registry scan as before. When the Scan Results page comes up at the end, double click any one of the entries to expand the list so that it shows the details.

Then find the one of interest which you want to exclude. Right click that entry and select Add subkey to ignore list.... If an actual file comes up (instead of just a registry entry) you can similarly right click and select Add value to ignore list...

Then click Repair and let the repair complete. It is very important to do this repair step as this action is what saves the exclusion into NU for subsequent scans.

Hope this helps and please let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Allen

AllenM - Thank you for your suggestion.  It may not have fixed the "Reported" problem, but at least it doesn't show up during the scan.  My system show clear now.

Re: Norton Utilities 14 - registry question

Hi PC_confused,

You are welcome. Unfortunately in cases where the program itself repeatedly adds an errored entry into the registry, there isn't anything NU can do except ignore it.

This does not of course preclude the possibility of a bug in NU which could incorrectly think an entry has an error. But you know how it is trying to get something like that fixed. And then, what to do in the meantime?

Best wishes.

Allen
