Norton Utilities Premium Empties Recycle Bin, Even with Boxes Unchecked

My Recycle Bin keeps being emptied.  I went into Norton Utilities Premium and found 3 places (Toolbox All-in-One Cleanup, Windows Cleanup, and Automatic PC Maintenance) where "Empty Recycle Bin" was checked; I unchecked all three (editorial comment: WHY HAVE THREE???).

I then ran Norton Utilities to make sure the problem was solved; it continued to empty the Recycle Bin.  I rebooted the machine and ran the test again; AGAIN, it emptied the Recycle Bin.

Either (1) there are still places that need to be unchecked or (2) there's a bug in the program.

Technical info:

  • Running Windows 11 with all updates applied.
  • HP Laptop w/i7 processor

I need to find a solution to this or I'll just delete this "Premium" program from my computer.

Re: Norton Utilities Premium Empties Recycle Bin, Even with Boxes Unchecked

This has been a perennial problem with for ages.

The setting should control at the Auto-Clean activity before it starts, besides giving the user the choice of requesting no emptying of the Recycle Bin after the Auto-Clean function starts.  It should oppositely... at Auto-Clean run, the user should be given the choice to Activate the clean-up of the Recycle Bin for each run.  The default setting should be to NOT clean the Recycle Bin.  At product install time users should be given the choice to set the product to either turn-on or turn-off Auto-Clean of the Recycle Bin.

With the default set to Auto-Clean Recycle Bin ON, it is defeating the OS design of having a Recycle.

I am quite surprised that with Norton's philosophy of security consciousness, that they let their product auto-delete things form the Recycle Bins of users all over the world.  The Recycle Bin was meant to be a safety mechanism in the design of Windows.  Yet the auto-delete function flies in the face of that safety.  The function should be defaulted to the opposite of what comes our of the install.

Norton makes some fine, effective products... but in this one function they are asleep at the switch.

I hope that someone in the corporation champions this cause, and stays with it, and gets the product changed.

Norton, please reply that this is being changed/fixed.

Re: Norton Utilities Premium Empties Recycle Bin, Even with Boxes Unchecked

Jim,

I agree with your comments.  But there seems to be either a bug in the code or yet another box I need to uncheck.  I have unchecked the three boxes I have discovered, but NUP still cleans out the Recycle Bin.

Having the default be to not empty it would be great, but in the meantime I just want it to do what I tell it to do.
