It's possible it was corrupted

Trying to repair it...

Then Windows start up in repair mode, when finished reboots and the show starts all over again!!

It seems to be due to changes Norton have made to the bootmanager.

After Disk Doctor fails and you press "any key" to continue Windows start repair mode and at some point you can coose "Reboot"

or "Advanced", if you choose "Advanced" there is an option something like "repair porblems that prohibit Windows in starting".

That solved the problem :-)

I have a similar problem.  WIndows 10 reports drive errors but when I schedule disk doctor to repair them on reboot, the errors do not get fixed.  Sometimes an error messages flashed that chkdsk.log cannot be found.  How do I fix this?

Steve

Your issue does not appear to be related to this thread. The OP got caught in a constant reboot loop.

For your issue, I honestly think that NU is on its last legs. There have been no updates to NU since Win 10 was released. Maybe just run Windows chkdsk if you feel there are errors you need to check.

That is actually my problem now.  Disk doctor scans the disk and then reboots and diagnoses then reboots and scans again.  When I use the advanced options to repair, windows reports a problem that it can't repair.  It also won''t let me restore my computer or go back to an earlier build of windows.  When I run sfc.exe or chkdsk.exe from the command prompt there are no errors reported.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What options are you using when you use chkdsk from the command line?   If you have not already, use the /r option that requires a reboot to check your system drive. Maybe that will reset the Windows setting that is causing the constant reboot loop.

Re: Norton Utilties 16 Disk Doctor Problem on Win 10

Yes I used the /f /r /x options but it reboots back to the same problem.  Norton tech support sent me a Norton bootable recovery file (NBRT) that scanned every file on my computer for viruses but didn't affect the problem.  Norton disc doctor has somehow locked my hard drive so windows can't start but won't release it.  They also sent me a removal tool (NRNR) but the documentation says it doesn't work on Norton Utilities.  Is there any way to boot to a command prompt (c:) so I can remove Norton Utilities?

Click on the Win 10 Start button, then hold the shift key while you click on Restart. This will bring up a boot menu where you can choose different boot options. You need to select the Advanced button to see the option for Command Prompt.

Just remember that you will not remove any registry settings if you just remove the NU files.  You may want to look for a Safe Mode setting on that boot menu. You should be able to remove NU from there.

Re: Norton Utilties 16 Disk Doctor Problem on Win 10

The command prompt you get from the repair menu is for a virtual drive (X:) not c: so I can't uninstall any Norton files.  Safe mode does not start successfully as it goes through the same disk doctor/repair cycles.  The only solution I found to work was using the advanced options to restore a drive image I had  saved 6 months ago.  None of the other restart or system restore options would work.  No more Norton Utilities (or disc crasher) for me.

Problem: "My computer won't boot in normal mode"
Solution: "Boot your computer up in normal mode then and hold down shift when you click restart, you will now be able to boot in a safemode to fix your 'cannot boot in normal mode' problem"

Does anyone else see the problem with this "windows 10" style solution?
