Norton VPN popup - no "Don't ask me again" option

After a Norton update on 2021-02-24, every time that I connect to WiFi (in my home), I get a constant popup regarding downloading / turning on Norton's VPN service.  There is no "Don't ask me again" option.  I already have a VPN service.  Norton needs to add the "Don't ask me again" button to this sales pitch.

I have went through ALL of the visible settings, and cannot disable this harassing and unwanted sales pitch.  I have been a Norton customer for nearly 20 years (in one form or another), but I will move to a different antivirus software if this annoyance continues.

I open a case with Norton Customer Service on 2021-02-25, and have not received any response as of yet.

Attached is a photo of the constant popup message.

Re: Norton VPN popup - no "Don't ask me again" option

Hi @Jon S.,

Thank you for posting on Norton Community. We are aware of this behaviour, and we are working on it. Meanwhile, as a workaround, please open Security History. For the Suspicious Network Detected entry, please click on Trust This Network button to stop notifications. Thank you for reporting this.

Have you looked into the point of the notice? It is suggesting your network security needs to be increased. Try changing the wifi password to a stronger password and see if that stops the messages.

Re: Norton VPN popup - no "Don't ask me again" option

The point of my comment is that there should be a "Don't ask me again" button - like most of the other Norton nag messages.  And, the nag message is not simply telling me to the change the WiFi password (which was fine prior to a recent Norton update), but to enable Norton's VPN service - which I do not want, as I already have a VPN service.

The WiFi password in my home is a 9 character alphanumeric combination, and I have no desire to change it.  Norton needs to include a "Don't ask me again" button to all of their nag comments - or lose customers.  This is not a free App, where sales popups would be expected - this is a paid service, and Norton needs to respect their customers.

It appears that this is one of the notifications that come up at the bottom right of the screen. It is not the same as the marketing nag screens users are seeing.

There is not a way to selectively stop notifications for individual detections or notifying for a feature that has run in the background. You can stop all notifications, but that may not be what you want either.

This might be a good suggestion for the Product Suggestions board https://community.norton.com/forums/product-suggestions

Re: Norton VPN popup - no "Don't ask me again" option

In the nag message popup, there is a button to subscribe to Norton's VPN service, so there is no reason that this nag message could not also include a "Don't ask me again" button.

If there were no button whatsoever in the popup message, then what you are suggesting could be true - but this is not the case.

This annoyance started after an update on 2021-02-24.  Norton needs to fix this, or they will annoy many of their customers.

Regarding Product Suggestion - I opened a customer case with Norton on 2021-02-25 (I was issued an 8 digit case number) - so Norton is aware of the issue.  I have yet to receive a reply from Norton.

Re: Norton VPN popup - no "Don't ask me again" option

Hello Gayathri R,

Thank you for the workaround instructions.

So far, this seems to have stopped the popup message from appearing every time that I connect to the Wi-Fi in my home.  I turned off so many things trying to address this - still attempting to make certain that these features are all turned back on now.

May I suggest, that with respect to this specific popup message, that along with the sole existing button (subscribing to Norton's VPN service), that an additional button be added, that is either a "Don't ask me this again" option, or a "Trust this network" option.

Perception forms reality.

The perception formed from the current popup message, is that Norton is constantly trying to force their customers into subscribing to a feature that they may not wish.

Adding a second button to this popup message would likely convey the perception that Norton is trying to keep their customers safe, while also offering them an informed choice of options.

Re: Norton VPN popup - no "Don't ask me again" option

I have the same problem as I'm using another VPN provider.  This is the same type of nag message as the ones you get from Norton to install their browser extensions.  Norton needs to do a better job of providing configuration options to allow knowledgeable users to turn off the nag messages.  Windows does this by recognizing when third party security programs are running.  Norton should provide the same functionality.  For now the suggested workaround seems to be doing the trick, but I doubt I would have found it on my own.
