Norton VPN shuts down my Internet

When out using my laptop remotely, I use my Android cell as a hotspot, and when I go to activate my Norton VPN, the VPN shuts down my Internet feed, thereby shutting the VPN down as well.  I need the remote protection of the VPN when out in the field.

Re: Norton VPN shuts down my Internet

I have similar issue.  iPhone was telling me I had security issue with 'man in the middle' or similar.  This greatly reduced my internet connection and interrupted my email, navigation and most serious the connection to my vehicle security tracker device.  This caused me to have several unpleasant conversations with the tracker company as they could find no fault.  Navigation loss of Waze made my motor-home trip very difficult and needed to buy paper maps.  It was fixed 2 weeks later when I realised that there was a possibility that 'the man in middle' was  'Norton VPN in the middle'. I turned VPN off and had instant connectivity.  Norton should highlight this as a potential risk with advice on how to rectify it without loss of security.  The customer should not have to research what must be a common occurrence.  Now I don't have internet security on my phone but I don't get lost on the highway and my vehicle is no longer shown as parked on a major highway some 50 miles from my home and the geofence will let me know if is moved from outside my residence.

Is the VPN enabled on the cell or the laptop or both?

Re: Norton VPN shuts down my Internet

On the cell phone, it is connected. Then I activate the hotspot on my phone to get an internet connection, THEN I activate the Norton VPN, and the internet then disconnects.  Happens every time.  So, when I am in the field with my laptop, I have to disconnect the VPN so I can access the internet.  Will think twice about renewing my subscription to Norton, and go back to my Express VPN which never gave me problems.

Re: Norton VPN shuts down my Internet

I would turn on the VPN on the laptop and not on the cell where the hotspot originates. The VPN is designed to disguise the network and encrypt the data so I  think the effectiveness of a VPN would come on the device where the browser is being used.

Your cell is acting just like a router and the Norton VPN is not designed to be used there. That is the case with Norton and maybe other VPNs do not disconnect but I do not know if they are as effective as they should be on the cell. I have never used it that way.

Try the experiment and post back.
