Norton VPN Shutting Down Home LAN

Norton 360 VPN is creating a local LAN and my home LAN seems to be shut down. No devices on my home network seem to be accessible with Norton VPN turned on. The major problem is that my server cannot be accessed from the LAN Norton appears to be creating and thus is not accessible. I need to get the Norton LAN to allow access to my server and other devices which is on my home LAN. The only solution I have found is to turn Norton VPN off which defeats it's purpose. Norton VPN is the only VPN I have tried that does this; I've tried several others. Is there a way to configure the Norton LAN to allow access to other devices on my home network and only encrypt data when being on the internet? With Norton VPN turned on the internet connect goes from about 90 Mbs/s to 10 Mbs/s which is way too slow. Do I just need to forget using Norton VPN and use another VPN service?

I tried to contact Norton Support directly but they limit the number of characters that can be entered describing the issue so they are no help. I'd give Norton support less than one star for just that issue.

Re: Norton VPN Shutting Down Home LAN

Turning Norton VPN off each evening to allow my computers to backup is something that should not be necessary.

Have you looked into the Split Tunnelling feature of the VPN? Try allowing the backup program/feature to bypass the VPN. What backup solution are you using?

Re: Norton VPN Shutting Down Home LAN

How are you trying to access your server?

The only solution I have found is to turn Norton VPN off which defeats it's purpose. Norton VPN is the only VPN I have tried that does this;

Is this a remote connection from outside your home network, or are you just trying to access from within your home? If within the home, as long as your a VPN would not be needed to add any extra protection.

As for the Support number of characters limit, you are not trying to give all details of the issue. Just put in " Cannot connect to home server with VPN active" .  You will have to repeat everything with the support agent anyway, so no need to include all the nitty gritty of the issue.

Re: Norton VPN Shutting Down Home LAN

My server does not show up as a device on the home network when Norton VPN is running. The network printer and security cameras also do not show up but do work as expected. The problem I'm having seems to only affect access the server. I do not access the server from remote locations even thought it can be configured to allow that; just one way of preventing malicious access. Turning Norton VPN off each evening to allow my computers to backup is something that should not be necessary. Any assistance in overcoming this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Norton VPN Shutting Down Home LAN

Thanks for the reply. Split Tunneling is not something I am familiar with but I will look into it.

My local back up is a synology server with 14 Tbs of storage. I use Acronis True Image software to manage my backups. This has worked great until the last Norton 360 upgrade.

Split Tunneling solved the issue. Thank You, Permalink. Our computers are now backing up the way I want.
