Norton WiFi Privacy

Following the installation of Norton WiFi Privacy I was unable to send out mail. However when I turned off the VPN there was no difficulty. Is this a common problem or should I do something else to correct the apparent problem?

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

Others here have reported the same issue.

What email provider do you have?

Does the email eventually go through?

Is there any error message when the email does not go through?

I use cogeco as my internet provider. The mail program is Windows live mail. The error message refers to the server will not accept VPN. The mail will only go through with VPN off.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

If Live Mail does not accept VPN, it is hardly a Norton problem. There are other email providers that have issues with VPN's also.

I too have to disable NWP when using Gmail through Thunderbird.  With the NWP active, it thinks someone else is trying to access my email, and I have to log into Gmail to confirm it is me.

I'm not sure where to go from here. Since this is a Norton program I would have thought that this was their issue to resolve!

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

You can try uninstalling NWP and installing a trial of another VPN provider.  Then see if you still see the same problems. If you do, try contacting the Windows Live support to see what they can suggest.

Thanks, will make an attempt, though Microsoft I believe would prefer the use of outlook in Windows 10!

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

I have the same problem sending outgoing mails using Outlook 2010 through John Lewis Broadband on my laptop which runs Windows 7. I have no problem though with my IPAD. The emails never go through unless I turn off NWFP. The NWFP installation on my laptop does appear unreliable though as it regularly remains in a state where it appears to be in the process of connecting where it is unclear whether it is working or not. I have uninstalled and re-installed it several times and have an impression it doesn't function well under Windows 7.

Do you have NWP on your iPad? Is your broadband provider also your email provider?

When you see the NWP seeming to still be trying to connect, do you have any problem using the internet? Usually when you see that NWP is having a problem connecting, a system restart usually fixes that.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy

Thanks Peterweb

Yes I have NWP on both my IPADs and works fine, no problems.

Yes my broadband and email providers are the same.

No I don't have a problem with internet when it appears to be trying to connect on my Windows 7 laptop. The app has a green colour and the connection indicator is on suggesting it actually is connecting despite the words stating "Connecting". Sometimes as now though the display actually states "Secured Connected" as well.

A system restart doesn't usually fix the VPN connection but an uninstall and re-installation does, but it doesn't fix the email problem. The latest problem occurred after a Windows update which suggests to me NWP and Windows 7 may not be working properly together.

Try contacting Norton Support and see if they have any more information on the issue with Outlook. www.norton.com/contactcs
