Norton Wifi Privacy and Standard Windows user account

Has anyone else tested NWP for Windows 10 PC using a standard Windows user account?

What I found is that NWP seems to work if I am logged into my Windows admin account, but does not work while logged into the standard user account.    Check using    www.whatismyipaddress.com

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Norton Wifi Privacy and Standard Windows user account

I can confirm that it is not working properly with a SUA. Although my testing was done in a virtual environment. I placed Norton Wifi in my Local Admin Account, switched over to my testing Standard account, and could not find a shortcut on the desktop, start menu, or system tray, so I went into program files x86, and found the executable in "Client" and launched it manually, then it appeared in the system tray, I was able to sign in and connect.

I have also been noticing some lag connecting sometimes, almost as if the application is frozen, this has just recently become very noticeable on my Host machine, and generally after the PC has been left alone for a period of time and has fallen asleep ect.

Re: Norton Wifi Privacy and Standard Windows user account

I  have dropped Norton Wifi again in the Vm on local admin, then created a standard account, restarted the system and found the NWPService process running, but upon opening edge and checking whatsmyipaddress I found it was not spoofed. It does appear when you as stated above, launch the application via the executable, you are prompted to sign in, in the SUA account even though already signed in on the Admin account. Probably where i would start looking for the solution.

Re: Norton Wifi Privacy and Standard Windows user account

Interesting update.

After the initial install of NWP from Win Admin account, signing into standard user account showed NWP not functioning. Restarting showed the same results. ie It would work for admin, but not for standard.

I logged into standard user. Then started NWP from the Norton Wifi Privacy.exe. It now is working in the standard user account.

I restarted my computer and was surprised to see that NWP started on its own in the standard user account. Not believing this, I restarted again and it is still working for the standard user.

Re: Norton Wifi Privacy and Standard Windows user account

It is indeed interesting. Sorry for the late reply to this thread and the confusion. I have been tending to 2 sick kids for a little over a week, and have been sick from this viral crud going around as well, so while attempting to do this, I was doing so with my head feeling like a top heavy bowling ball

I'm glad this has been observed and reported to Norton for those running Standard accounts.
