Norton WiFi Privacy - The answer to many questions

I've seen many questions and comments about Norton WiFi Privacy not starting, disappearing, not working properly, etc on various platforms. And lots of failed suggestions to make it work. I too suffered from this problem and decided to do some debugging.

I may have the solution to many of your (Norton WiFi Privacy) problems. And it's simple if not ideal.
Before logging into Norton WiFi Privacy, you need to log on to your Norton Account and turn on Automatic Renewal. And that's it.
Once Automatic Renewal is turned on, you should be able to go to each of your Norton WiFi Privacy installations and log on.
After logging on to all your Norton WiFi Privacy installations, you can turn Automatic Renewal back off. BUT, if any of your Norton WiFi sessions log out for any reason, it's back to Automatic renewal before logging back in again.

So a bug in the app? Looks to me as if the developer is inadvertantly checking the status of "Automatic Renewal" instead of the status of "Annual Subscription".

Hope this helps.

Interesting find. I know of other problems with the Norton Account web page for the NWP product. So you may be on to something.

Let's see if any others with problems can test this out.

This did not work for me. I had Norton Support in  my Dell Laptop with Win 10 on all day and they gave up. They couldn't get it to stay on (connect) unless they remove the product and reinstall. Works until I shut down. On a new start, it won't connect again.

When you restart your computer, does NWP start, but just cannot connect?

Or does it just not start up automatically?

never mind. I just read your other thread.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy - The answer to many questions

I have installed Norton WiFi Privacy on my Windows 10 PC and also my Android phone. The product works fine and sets up the VPN on my mobile but I have an issue with the Windows 10 version. I can connect and login to the Norton Server using Norton Server on my PC but when I use the WiFi Privacy icon it displays a similar window but will not let me log into the server. It just returns to the logon prompt. It recognises the user email and doesn't give any incorrect password messages. The product isn't displayed when I login using Norton Security.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy - The answer to many questions

Did you try the process outlined in the first post in this thread?

Have you restarted your computer? Not a shutdown and startup, as if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled, you do not get a complete shutdown required to fully update programs. If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

What is your Win 10 version?

I did try to switch on Automatic Renewal and got the message:

Enrollment Temporarily Unavailable

We can't enroll you in the Norton Automatic Renewal Service from this page due to a system issue. Visit Norton Support to enroll and to take advantage of this exclusive offer.

The product isn't displayed when I login using Norton Security.

Are you referring to logging into your Norton Account? If so, you need to click on My Norton at the top right of the page then click on My Subscriptions. Although you seem to have already found that if you found the Auto Renewal settings.

Try uninstalling NWP, restart your computer and then reinstall NWP. Then test to see if you still have issues.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy - The answer to many questions

I'm having a similar problem, unable to connect to wifi privacy, tried many steps and about to give up due to too much time spent on issue.

Logging is ok, account credentials ok, 2-step authentication prompt ok...no vpn connection...just goes back to wifi privacy login prompt.

Tried uninstalling and re-installing. Tried restarting system. Tried turning on auto-renewal. Tried turning off 2-step auth. Tried checking the box for verifying account settings which works but again no vpn connection.

Tried tech support chat, person wanted to connect to my machine, I said "No", told me to enter the code from vip access instead of tapping the check box, no joy, asked to connect to my machine again, I said "No" and ended the chat.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy - The answer to many questions

You really should let the Norton Rep log onto your computer...prob the fastest way to correct your problem -IF it can be corrected. If you don't TRUST Norton...why did you buy their software ?  I've had them "take over" my computers numerous times over the years....GREAT people to work with. It (Wi-Fi Privacy) started working last night after doing a Norton Live Update. . Keep doing "Live Updates" until it says you are current.

Is the computer you are having problems a desktop of laptop?  What brand?. My laptop by Dell is the one I'm having that problem It has always worked  with my phone but just not with the Dell Laptop.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy - The answer to many questions

I did the Live Update and the system did an update and a patch install. I restarted the Windows 10 PC but I can still not log into WiFi Privacy. The password is correct as I get a message when I enter an incorrect password. With the correct password it just returns to the WiFi Privacy login window.

What LiveUpdate are you referring to? Was there an update message for NWP, or did you run LiveUpdate in your Norton Security product? The Norton Security product has absolutely no connection to your NWP.

Try contacting Support to see if they can help with the login problem?    www.norton.com/contactcs

Please let us know what they do if they are able to fix this for you.

When I signed into Norton Security I selected the SECURITY tab and selected LiveUpdate.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy - The answer to many questions

OK - if Live Update does NOT do updates to NWP, then in my case it was just a coincidence .  I don't use my laptop much while at home so at this particular boot up it just happened to work?  And yes, that Live Update did do a patch that required a re-boot. On that re-boot is when my NWP started working again. If I get time today I will boot up the laptop to  see if NWP is still working.
