Norton WiFi Privacy icon missing

I have recently installed Norton WiFi Privacy. It must be running because my IP address puts me in Buffalo USA rather than UK where I am. However the icon is not showing on the Taskbar or in the hidden icons, neither does it show on the list of Programs from the Start Menu. Without the icon I cannot change to a different geographic location.

I have reinstalled the software and restarted several times.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy icon missing

Are you using a Standard Windows user account? I just tested setting up Norton Secure VPN in my Windows Admin user account, and set Norton Secure VPN to Launch at Startup. Then I restarted my computer and logged into my Standard Windows user account. As you found, the VPN does seem to be enabled and affecting the Standard user account. I also noted I was unable to start the VPN interface. Switching back to the  the Admin account, I disabled the Launch at Startup, switched back to the Standard user, and I was able to start the VPN interface again.

So you can do like I did to access the interface from a Standard user account. Or you could just log into your Admin account and choose the country you wish to use as the virtual location.

To be able to access the VPN interface from a Standard user account, you may need to create a shortcut to it for your desktop. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to   C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Secure VPN\client\Norton Secure VPN.exe   Right click that file and create a shortcut.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy icon missing

Thanks, yes I was using a Standard Account - I only use the admin account for installing software or making similar system changes.

I have created a shortcut, shame it doesn't work as it should but this is an effective workaround.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy icon missing

I did report this behaviour to Norton some time ago. It has been a long while since I installed the VPN, so I cannot remember how the process works when you install using a Standard user account. Maybe that would have defaulted the feature to starting at logon, and you would have seen the icon in the system tray.

I know it does not create a desktop icon.
