Norton WiFi Privacy Windows 10 Mobile

I was looking to get Norton WiFi Privacy however I used a Windows 10 Mobile smartphone and not sure if it will work with it.  Do you have to install an app in order to use it or can you manual setup the VPN connection in the phone?  Windows 10 Mobile allows you to create VPN connections in the Network Settings.  On the Norton WiFi Privacy page https://us.norton.com/wifi-privacy it says in the systems requirements section that "Microsoft Windows 10 (all versions)" is supported.  If it can't be used without an app then I would not consider it to be compatible with all versions of Windows 10 and consider it false advertising.

Before I purchase Norton WiFi Privacy can you manually set it up on a device without having to use an app?

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy Windows 10 Mobile

Windows Mobile, although using the Windows 10 version number, it is a separate OS. ie, you would not be able to load the standard Windows 10 on a Windows mobile device, or vice versa. So there is really no misrepresentation on the Norton Wifi Privacy web site. The 'all version' comment referrs to  Win XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10. It also states "Available for Windows PCs, Macs, iOS and Android devices:"   Note...Windows PCs.

Yes you do have to install the app to use the feature. It is not just a configuration you can add to your device. If you cannot see it in the Windows Mobile app store, it is not available for Win Mobile.

FYI   I'm not sure there are any Norton apps at all for Windows Mobile. The last time there was any response from Norton on this it was partially due to the small user base, compared to IOS and Android.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy Windows 10 Mobile

The core or kernel, i.e. Windows OneCore, of the Windows 10 OS is basically the same and a WUP can run on Windows 10 Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education and Mobile.

If the just had Microsoft Windows (all versions)  I would agree with you that then "all versions" referred to XP, Vista, 7, 8,and 10.  However they break down each Windows release separately and have "all version" after them.  For example it is listed on the site as:

  • Microsoft Windows Vista (all versions) with Service Pack 1 (SP 1) or later
  • Microsoft Windows 7 (all versions) with Service Pack 1 (SP 1) or later
  • Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 (all versions)
  • Microsoft Windows 10 (all versions)

So when reading "all versions" after Windows 10 then it implies Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education and Mobile.  For example the list they have listed translated as:

  • Microsoft Windows Vista (Home, Business, Enterprise, Ultimate) with Service Pack 1 (SP 1) or later
  • Microsoft Windows 7 (Home, Pro, Enterprise, Ultimate) with Service Pack 1 (SP 1) or later
  • Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 (Home, Pro, Enterprise)
  • Microsoft Windows 10 (Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education, Mobile)

If Symantec supported L2TP/IPsec and provided the VPN server address then it could be manually configured on the device so that it could be used without a special app.

Re: Norton WiFi Privacy Windows 10 Mobile

But you missed what I bolded in my previous post.   Windows PCs , no mention of mobile.
