norton wifi security outlook email send fails

Norton wifi security will not allow me to send Email from Outlook (365) on my secured home network. When I turn Norton Wifi Security off, the email will send. When I turn it on the Email will not send. In either instance, there is no problem receiving Emails. This is very inconvenient, to say the least.

Do you get the same result if you choose another country for Norton Wifi Privacy, NWP?

Who is your email provider?  ie Gmail, Yahoo,

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

TWC/Spectrum is the provider. I have not tried another country -- It seems to be more unnecessary exploration of the problem than imaginably practical.

Sending Email is not a problem if I do not have the Norton WiFi Security on while on my home network. Turning it off is not a problem, but seems to defeat what is otherwise the practicality and usefulness of the program.

Thank you for asking, though!

A possible fix from searching Outlook and VPN problems.

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

This is not an Exchange issue -- I believe that it is an unanticipated glitch in the NWP program. I'm no expert, but it seems that when the NWP is on and I can get Email but not send it, and when it is off, and I can get and send Email, the problem is in the NWP. While I'm not on my home network, and am in another location using a unsecured connection, NWP makes sense and I rarely, if ever, send Email from Outlook under those circumstances. I'm new to NWP as of this weekend, when I was for the weekend on an unsecured WiFi network, and purchased and installed it for that purpose. I have a secure home network, and if the program actually has a glitch that any Norton tech may potentially have interest in, then it will be useful extra security when the glitch is corrected, but until then, it is useless to me on my home network.

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

I understand that NWP was the only change and then your email had issues. It is easy to blame the new player for the problem.

Even though you are not using an Exchange server, it does seem you are having connectivity issues with the outgoing email servers. The link I gave suggested some settings in Outlook to help with a connectivity issue.

I still think it would be worth asking in the Microsoft Answers forum.

Will do but meanwhile, it may be useful to bring this to the attention of Norton. . ..

I'll pass this thread to my contacts. We'll see if they have any insight on this.

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

I have received some feedback from my colleagues. It was noted that some email providers are known to block outgoing emails from outside their country  to help stop spammers from hijacking your email account.

If your NWP is not set to the US, could you try manually setting US and testing your email?

It is, and has been set to US. . ..

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

Thanks for confirming.

What error message do you see? Or do your emails just sit in the Outbox?

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

They just sit in the outbox, and that little box that pops up that tells me that the program can't connect to the outgoing mail server.

Thanks. I have passed this thread to Norton and my contacts have passed it on to the NWP team. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

Hey @Hubert Rabon was there ever a solution from Microsoft? Also wondering what version of Windows you're using, as well as what updates are applied so I can try to imitate and escalate further on our end. You can find this info, kinda, by using the Run command and typing dxdiag, and telling us the windows build version. We can start from there!

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

Have not sought help for this from MS yet -- It is not an issue unless I am on my home network and I just do not use Norton WiFi Privacy at home. I am using Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 14393). Thank you for your interest!

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

I have the same issue.

Windows 10, Outlook 2010, Broadband provider is TWC, but my mail is hosted with GoDaddy.  I own the domain.

NWP and NS are installed.

NWP on with US as the region, incoming mail is fine, outgoing mail just fails miserably and sits in the Outbox until is turn NWP off, then it immediately goes out fine.

NWP off, mail works fine both ways.

Seems to me an issue with NWP and the mail hosting server, who to specifically ask to fix it is another story.

Please advise.

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

Followup on my post.

With GoDaddy, my smtp out mail is not internet provider specific, I can send my mail from anywhere in the US.  Just have to connect to their mail server via port 80 for smtp out, and enable authentication.

Works anywhere, unless NWP is on.

Re: norton wifi security outlook email send fails

Tried on a few systems with Outlook 2010 and 2016, with Windows 10 Creators and Windows 10 Home. Tried out a few apps and other VPN's too and got the same, ish, kinda response where I'm not able to connect. Wanted to super verify since we do know why it doesnt work in situations.

I know for sure we mention that due to the nature of VPN's, we encrypt connections and a strict whitelist. This is for the protection of users from the desktop end. Thats why you'll notice some applications show "no internet connection available" since we're not telegraphing the kinda data we're pushing through. IE; those who use a VPN on like TMobile with BingeOn, would have their data counted even if YouTube was "allowed", because TMobile wouldn't be able to parse thats its YouTube data, only that its data period. Microsoft Exchange in particular and SMTP traffic get a lot of bogus calls, so its often VPNS block connections.

I would say this is a good thing, but I understand the inconvenience, and the preference users have to particular applications. Sorry it took long to confirm and verify.
