Norton x64

I noticed that the new version of Norton Security is a 64-bit version, but not full. It has a 32-bit files and in the folder C: \Program Files(x86). Why Symantec decided on a partial 64-bit version?

Re: Norton x64

Hello SKIBA,

Some 32-bit files are installed in order to support 32-bit third party applications like IE, Firefox, Outlook etc.

Thanks,

Re: Norton x64

actually it is a full x64 app

If you clean install norton,it will only write files to Program Files. not Program Files(x86)

but if you upgrade 22.8 to 22.9, norton will remian in old Program Files(x86).

that is what i found....I tried to clean install/upgrade norton 22.9 and it was only in Program Files

Oh. Except that the Internet is not the full version 22.9 only through LiveUpdate.

Thanks Heavens Feel, I can confirm that it worked well, I did a clean instalation of Norton Security 22.9.0.71 and Norton has been moved from Program Files(x86) to Program Files.

Re: Norton x64

Yesterday I did a Norton RnR (Remove and Reinstall). That moved the Norton folder from Program Files (x86) to Program Files. (NS 22.9.0.71 was the version removed and reinstalled, BTW.)

Re: Norton x64

In case you're interested,

Here is some info re 64 bit operation.

"This is not a new feature to the Norton product, but an architectural change to the product. In previous versions, only drivers and select extensions were provided as native 64-bit binaries. In this release we have enabled the entire product to run natively as 64-bit. This will set us up for future improvements in performance, protection, and stability."
