norton360 blocking Malwarebytes,Why?

Please explain.
Are you running Norton 360 & Malwarebytes?
Have you set up exclusions in both Norton 360 & Malwarebytes?
Are you asking about
Unauthorized Access Blocked messages in Norton Security History?

Re: norton360 blocking Malwarebytes,Why?

The Unauthorized Access Blocked messages in your security history are logged by Norton Product Tamper Protection when an executable file attempts to read/write/edit/delete a Norton file.  Common Windows processes like svchost.exe, taskmgr.exe, dfrgntfs.exe, etc. as well as executable from third-party software will cause an Unauthorized Access Blocked message to be logged if they touch a file from your Norton installation. Please see post <here> in the Product Suggestions board regarding logging of these blocks. (credit Imacri)

Norton Product Tamper Protection events are not reports of malware.  Unauthorized Access Blocked (Access Process Data) messages in your security history are not reports of malware.  The most common Norton Product Tamper Protection log entries are legitimate Windows processes that Norton is preventing from accessing Norton files or processes.

Norton Product Tamper Protection events are normal, as legitimate programs and Windows processes frequently try to access Norton files or processes.  Norton blocks attempts by outside agents - even legitimate Windows processes.  There is no need to do anything.  No need to scan with a third-party anti-malware program, no need to change services settings.  These events are not attacks.  They can be ignored.  Unless the actor in the logs is an actual malicious process that does not belong on your PC, these events are totally harmless and routine. (credit SendOfJive)

Malwarebytes compatibility with Norton Security

Malwarebytes for Windows antivirus exclusions list
If you are running another antivirus software alongside Malwarebytes for Windows, the software may misinterpret Malwarebytes and its features as a threat, creating a conflict. Antivirus conflicts can impact Real-Time Protection and may even cause your computer to slow down or freeze. To ensure the other antivirus software doesn't conflict with Malwarebytes for Windows, add Malwarebytes' files and drivers to the other antivirus' exclusions.

If you’re using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, you should be running it alongside a primary antivirus program to keep your computer in tip-top security shape. But traditional advice is not to run two anti-malware programs at once. Here’s how to thread that needle.

Malwarebytes is coded in a different way and is designed to run alongside other antivirus programs without interfering. It may even work without any further configuration. But, to make it work as well as it possibly can and improve performance, you should set up exclusions in both Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium and your standard antivirus program.

Re: norton360 blocking Malwarebytes,Why?

Adding exclusions for MBAM in Norton and vice versa makes it work fine.

I added all of the MBAM folders and individual executables in the Windows folders as per the Malwarebytes general exclusions threads on MBAM support forums to both "Items to Exclude from Scans" and Realtime Exclusions in "Items to Exclude from Auto Protect, Scri........" sections in Norton.

You will likely also need to turn of Fast Startup in Windows 10/11

Re: norton360 blocking Malwarebytes,Why?

But on my system, MB won't even install. After several tries, it finally gives up and posts a message saying that MB cannot be installed on this computer.

So I can't add exclusions to MB since it isn't on my computer. And of course the MB files to add to Norton don't exist either.

A year or so ago, MB support finally gave up trying to solve the problem.

Any ideas?

TIA
