Re: Norton's disappeared

I had to remove and reinstall to get Norton back and working there. That was defo a gash update because Support were suddenly "experiencing very high call volumes". Very very poor...

Re: Norton's disappeared

Yeah, same as mine on Saturday. I was eventually made (having had a "Chat" - god, I hate that) to use the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool which seemed to remove but not reinstall; I then had to go fetch and reinstall myself. I never know why they want to take remote control - does anyone let anyone do that any more?!

My system is the same as yours so perhaps it's a Creators Update issue. Maybe. But given there's another thread on here related I'm thinking it is a Norton issue related to the update that happened immediately before it vanished.

I wasn't charmed to find my AV had disappeared on me while not in the room. Minus a lot of brownie points for Norton at the moment for me.

Will anyone from Norton officials comments in this forum?

Maybe we are just talking to ourselves ..

I've asked if someone from Symantec can contact you on this thread.

Re: Norton's disappeared

Gentlemen, I tried more with support website and the problem solved by the following method:

1- Uninstall Norton using NRnR.exe (Norton Removal & Reinstall)

2- Download and install fresh copy through your Norton account.

3- Done

Thank you for support.

Re: Norton's disappeared

Yes, that's what I did last week. However, you're kind of missing the point here. Annoying as that was much more annoying was coming back to my laptop to find Norton had updated and then didn't work and the only way to fix it was to go through that palaver. It's supposed to be a security package. If it can update and screw itself up and leave your laptop in a questionable position with regard to security then... that's not really very good...

Nor is the apparent absence of Symantec folk on here in general. Nor is having a "chat" with someone that wants to remote into your PC (really? in this day and age?? I think not). Nor is having a My Devices page that's frequently screwed up either. I think Symantec need to buckle up here and do rather better for its customers.

Re: Norton's disappeared

Folks without coming over as brash I must say, there is a lot of complaining going on here. ONLY one screenshot of what you are actually seeing. We ARE at a serious disadvantage working totally in the dark having zero idea what your specific issue could be based solely on a verbal conversation.

We have no idea:

Whether your systems are fully updated and/or your settings are sufficient to protect you. IE you are logging in with an account that has Admin privileges.

Whether you have more than one antiviral solution running side by side on your systems.

Whether you have had a previous infection which has not been properly addressed.

Whether you have disabled "fast startup" in your Windows installs if running Windows 8/8.1/10

Whether or not you have crapware installed which could be the issue in itself.

Use the removal and reinstall tool to get a fresh install of your products. ENSURE you run live update and more than once. Reboot your systems at least twice after all your updates are installed.

An admin HAS addressed your concerns in an earlier comment. PLEASE work with them not against them. I guarantee you your issues will be resolved. Cheers!!

Re: Norton's disappeared

Obviously there's a lot of complaining. With good reason; if your AV gets screwed up by an AV update that's probably worth complaining about. However, to answer your questions (for my own case), in sequence:

Yes and yes and at all times.

No, never.

No, never.

Yes.

No, never.

The Remove and Reinstall tool only removed it. It failed to reinstall it. I downloaded a fresh copy and installed that and all has been well again since.

Btw I don't see anyone working against anyone. I think we would just like to know what happened there and why. Without shouting. Never a good way to treat customers. Reading all the above again I can't see anyone addressing those concerns.

Re: Norton's disappeared

Hello again David. Explaining what the cause was is sometime not so obvious to we users, myself included lol. Things are corrected behind the scenes. Again I wasn't attempting to be brash just openly saying posters can provide some basic information which is very helpful. We are always glad to assist with how to do that at anytime. Glad you have a resolution as well. Cheers. Please mark the thread as solved if you feel that is the case.

Re: Norton's disappeared

Norton disappeared. Very frustrated. Tried everything. Now on reinstall can't connect with Norton server.  I'm shutting down my system and waiting a few days to cool off.   Will try uninstall and download again. If not working, I'll have to get another virus protection program for this computer.  Have to check other laptops now!

Re: Norton's disappeared

I wound up using the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool, though the reinstall bit didn't work. I then downloaded afresh and re-installed thataway. Been fine since but still angry that it happened in the first place. If your AV can just disappear on you then that's hyper dodgy. The second of my three laptops has now newly updated to the Creator's Update so I'll pay careful attention and see if it happens on that one now too.

This sounds like you may have been using a standard Windows user account when you ran the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool. The reinstall part will not kick in unless using an Admin account.

Re: Norton's disappeared

It was an admin account. Had to do it a few times before a couple of years back and it worked fine but not this time so had to do what I said I did instead...

Hi,

No, just normal consumer track stuff... Live Update up-to-date, Norton up-to-date...

Re: Norton's disappeared

I'm having this issue too. My Norton was fine yesterday when I down-powered then today, when I logged on, and saw that I needed to do something with it, it wouldn't come up. After rebooting, the icon for it disappeared. I managed to get it up, and saw that it did have that "coming soon" thing on it. After another reboot (to get the icon back to where it should be), I tried to get it to come up. It took forever to do so and, when it did, I got an error and LiveUpdate is running message. The LiveUpdate's been running for a while now (3048, 3 was said to be the at first problem then, when I X'd out, then pulled Norton back up again, 8504, 104 was said to be the issue; I'm linking this with an update that ran through after I down-powered).

Re: Norton's disappeared

Try running LiveUpdate several time until no updates found + Restart machine (not Shut down).  Repeat.

Error: "8504,104"  This error can be caused by another security product or due to a failed install when the product is being upgraded to a newer version.
