A notice for Norton product users using Firefox Google toolbar

There is an apparent incompatibilty between the Norton Toolbar and the new beta of the Google Toolbar (with Sidewiki, version 6.1.20090917Wb).

If you install the new version of the toolbar, it will result in the message 'The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded' on every Firefox startup. Until Symantec and Google get in touch and resolve this issue, I would recommend sticking with the older version of the toolbar (version 5.0.20090813W), especially if you are an easily irritable type of person.

This is also a notice for Symantec to get in touch with the Google toolbar team and ask them: 'So, what's up with our toolbar(s) then?'

If someone has already updated and doesn't know how to get back to the old version, you should be able to get it here.

Re: A notice for Norton product users using Firefox Google toolbar

Please try the following after you have installed Google’s toolbar.

1.       Go to “Tools->Addons” in Firefox and disable “Google Toolbar for Firefox” extension.

2.       Restart Firefox ( make sure you close all instances of Firefox )

3.       Now go to “Tools->Addons” in Firefox and enable “Google Toolbar for Firefox” extension.

4.       Restart Firefox and the issue should be resolved.

Please let me know if this resolved the issue.
Thanks

Re: A notice for Norton product users using Firefox Google toolbar

It fixes the problem on the first restart after re-enabling the toolbar. On the second, third, fourth, fifth.... and so on, it comes back, unfortunately.

So the issue is not resolved - yet.

Well, if you disable the norton toolbar it works.   This just started happening to me in the last day or two...weird.

I guess that's the problem with beta apps. Does it work with the regular Google toolbar?

Try the latest version of Google's toolbar, looks like they fixed the issue

Not the only thing they may have fixed it would seem -- I've been having some problems with IE7 not going to where it should be able to that disappeared when I forced a reinstall from their website.
