NS, Win10, over 90% disk activity makes using PC 'hard'

We've got NS on 2 PC's, both Dells that were upgraded from W8.1 Pro to W10 Pro. An XPS 8500 (Intel i7-3770 CPU, ATI HD7000 video, boot from SSD and 2 hard drives) and a XPS 435T (Intel i7-920, ATI HD7770 video, boot from SSD and 2 hard drives).

The XPS 8500 appears to work fine.

However, not the XPS 435T. NS seems to be 'eating' up the disk access on the last hard disk, see attachment 1.

Live Update says all is up to date? Trying to do simple tasks, like start Task Manager takes forever it seems.

If I open NS or look at the icon on the SYSTRAY it doesn't show ANY scan running. However Resource Manager shows it is ACCESSING my IPAD backups?

Wouldn't a BACKGROUND scan show as scanning?

Suggestions. BTW, the 8500 also has an IPAD backup and it isn't happening on that PC?

A background scan will not be showing on the main Norton screen if it is in progress. How long have the scans been running?

Have you tried restarting your computer? Do not just shutdown from the start menu/Power option, this will use the Fast Start feature. Right click on the start button, and choose Restart from the Shutdown or Sign Out list.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Well, it has been since it was booted even yesterday. Was updated to W10 2 days ago and it didn't happen then. Matter of fact we left for 2 hours and it is still running now. That is a large partition. Now in both the iPad backup and iTunes library.

Yes, a few times. Starts right up again. Don't need Fast Start, this computer boots fast as it is off of an SSD.

I can't believe that scan would 'suck' all the power out of the PC and especially use over 90% of the disk access, which is what is killing me opening or reading any file on that disk. There are almost 500GB's of files on that drive and most or some sort of non-text file. I should probably exclude the iPad and iTunes folders I guess? Still, I don't think a scan should use all the disk access time, shouldn't it be at a lower priority?

Why didn't the other PC have this problem? Same amount of hard disk storage, has iPad and iTune folders as well? That PC has no bottlenecks and can be used. Both systems are SATA as well for the hard drives, SATA II even except the 8500 had the SSD on SATA III. Doesn't make sense?

The Fast start feature is ON by default. Have you checked that it has been turned off?

OK, found it and it was on. Turned it off. The scan is STILL running, now on the last partition at least. Disk usage, 100%... sheesh.

Hello

You probably need to shut down and then boot up, but don't do that while scanning is still going on.

Thanks.
