nse.exe problems not fixed

I do not know what this nse.exe issue is but it comes up randomly "NSE.EXE application error unable to start." I do not know what NSE.EXE I called Norton Support. I got some guy that logged into my computer (with my permission) and then checked to see if my Norton 360 was up to date. It did have a slight update since the previous day but I am sure had nothing to do with it. I told him exactly the problem but he was not listening to me. He said they have no record of it. I repeated the issue. I told him to check multiple times. Without my permission, he started updating all my applications. I stopped him and told him he had no right to do that and that I have applications that I may not want them to be (I have some legacy software that may be affected). I told him I wanted to speak to his supervisor. He left my session open online, he went silent on the phone. I waited awhile then hung up and dropped the session. Summary: I am tunning Norton 360. Everything is up-to-date with Norton and Windows. No apps were running that were out of date. Won't know if it is fixed until it fails again. Terrible service from Norton.

Re: nse.exe problems not fixed

Hello rboaz. The file NSE.exe is possible evidence of an unwanted program running on your system. Run a full system scan with Norton first to see if things come up clean.

I also recommend downloading and running Malwarebytes and see what it discovers that Norton isn't focusing on.

Re: nse.exe problems not fixed

I will run a full scan, but my error message is "NSc.exe", not NSE.exe.  Thanks

Re: nse.exe problems not fixed

Umm...the title of the original post says NSE.exe, maybe a typo on your part. Nevertheless, the file Nsc.exe isn't present on my installs of Norton Security Ultra. I will review my Norton 360 Deluxe install on my Windows 11 laptop and compare.

Do you have fast startup enabled in Windows? Here is how to disable it then reboot.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-turn-off-fast-startup-windows-1...

For the record what is the version and build of your Windows 10 install? Most Windows issues occur with Nsc.exe not loading when Windows starts, due to being on a version of Windows 10 that is prior to the Anniversary Update. That may not be your issue but is a thought.

If none of the above are applicable I would do the following as a possible resolution. Make sure fast startup is disabled then do a removal only scenario as shown below and restart. That should give you a clean boot then you can reinstall your Norton product as shown.

  • To only remove your Norton device security product, click Advanced Options and then click Remove Only. Pay close attention to step # 5 in the Norton article.

Follow on screen prompts to restart your machine. Afterwards log into your Norton account to reinstall your Norton product and run live updates to install all patches that are available. Make sure you reboot as each patch is installed whether prompted to do so or not. This will ensure the patches are installed separately and completely. Perform a final restart.
