NVP slows IE by 26 secs. IE keeps asking me to manage add-ons. How risky is it to disable NVP?

Norton Security Suite's Vulnerability Protection causes my IE browser to run slowly.  According to the  IE pop up that keeps telling me to manage my add-ons for better speed and performance, NVP slows down my browser by 26 seconds.  I have Windows 8.1 but have not had any of the compatibility issues that others seem to have had.  My question is this:  Can I disable NVP without putting my computer too much at risk?  Twenty-six seconds is way too much and I am not going to use NVP if I can speed it up or supplement it with another program.  I hope all you smart minds out there can give me a clue, here.  Thannk you!

I doubt that it's causing a delay of 26 seconds; it will be more like 0.26 seconds. Consider changing IE's alert threshold to '0.30 seconds' or higher, as per the instructions here:

Are you sure that's not .26 of a second?

There are other layers of protection in your Norton products that look at everything that tries to run on your computer. The Sonar feature looks at the behaviour of all programs to catch anything that tries to do bad things.

So just disabling NVP will not leave you as unprotected as you think.

Have you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available, to make sure you have the latest version of NVP. Maybe your version just needs to be updated.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Oh boy, do I feel dumb.  You are right.  It's .26 seconds.  I will check the link you have provided.  Thanks for responding.

Thank you for your answer.  It was very helpful and I will try the things you suggest.  On another note: do you know why Norton's vault sometimes does not fill in the logon info even when it is on?  Thanks.
