Does Norton backup save existing data or just new work, pics, etc? Why is it half the price of Carbonite? I understand Carbonite saves everything.
If you set it for your existing work or drive then it will surely backup all your existing data as well. In my understanding, it will backup all your existing and new data, altogether. Well Carbonite is a big player of the online backup services market and that is why their price is comparatively higher than that of Nortan. Plus it saves and backup everything, like you said.
Norton Online Backup saves existing data (files, not applications or system files) as well as all new data that is added. You can adjust the default settings to add or remove data as you see fit. The cost is lower than Carbonite because we don't offer 'unlimited' backup. I put unlimited in quotes because Carbonite will throttle your bandwidth over a a certain data size and make backups much slower.
Hope this helps and thanks for using Norton Online Backup.

Also take note to read Carbonite's fine print in regards to restores. There is also throttling performed when you want to restore data. Another reason why they offer unlimited at a lower cost.
Would like to make clear that it will not keep older files of the same name for anyone that reviews the thread.
That is to say if you save a file 'file001.doc' on the 13th and change the doc the next day of the same name 'file001.doc' and have it backup it will overwrite the previous backup. I mention it because I have seen people ask about that and wanted to make sure it was clarified unless something has changed since I last had to deal with backup for anything but my small backups.
