OnlineFamily on Android 4.4 Kitkat

Hello,

I've installed OnlineFamily on my Nexus 5 with android 4.4, and its blocks properly restricted sites on the Chrome default browser on the Nexus), but when i'm using private browsing - its blocks nothing! At all. No alerts in the logs, no blocks on mobile phone.

Installed last version of the OnlineFamily from december 10, 2013 (are you planning to upgrade the soft on android?).

Re: OnlineFamily on Android 4.4 Kitkat

Hi JumpErr,

Thanks for the post.  If the Incognito feature is on while using the phone,  I understand the program will send an alert message to the parent when the “incognito” feature is used.  Do you get any alert messages about this?

Thanks,

Katie

Hi Katie,

No i didnt get such alerts.
I had alerts about firefox installation, but i removed FF.
Restricted sites still opens without any blocks or alerts in the Google Chrome.

Hi JumpErr,

I double checked with the Norton Family team and confirmed the program will send an alert message to the parent when the Incognito feature is on in a future release.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi Katie,

It sounds like good news, but it also means that you are not planning to block access bad sites in private browsing - just inform. Please correct me if Im wrong.

Hi JumpErr,

The current planned solution to the issue is sending an alert to the parent when the private browsing mode is on.

Thanks,

Katie

Hello Katie,

Could you please clarify, what is the reason do not block private browsing? Is it technically restricted by Chrome, or it is line based on principle of Symantec?

Re: OnlineFamily on Android 4.4 Kitkat

JumpErr,

That's a great question. The issue is technical feasibility. We are working on a solution to block private browsing, but today we don't have that capability yet on all devices. As Katie mentioned, in the next release we will be able to alert parents when a child enters "incognito mode" or private browsing, which will help initiate a discussion about responsible use of the Internet.

Thanks,
Lauren
