opt for IDSS w Norton uninstall + Local before uninstall...?

I'm curious.  I have Norton Security (retail) with Local vault via backdoor.   Upon Norton Security uninstall and opt for IDSS.    Does IDSS move Local to Online....?
I'm aware Norton Security with Local vault upon Norton Security uninstall / reinstall retains Local.   Curious, upon Norton Security uninstall and opt-in for IDSS.   Does the Norton Security program uninstall retain the Norton Toolbar/ID Safe Local from my Norton Security with Local vault or pull and install new IDSS.  And then with new IDSS Local is moved Online...?
Thanks

I assume it would retain your Local vault but have not done it.

When I was beta testing W10 and NIS was not compatible I installed IDSS and was able to use the backdoor to add my Local vault.

Thanks!, very interesting.   Hmm, does user created IDSS Local require Norton account or Windows account.  I mean does IDSS Local.   Sign In as Local or Online.
So, perhaps Norton Security (retail w Local & Comcast only w Local) will uninstall and retain Local with opt for IDSS.  And if not.  Backdoor will allow IDSS Local.

That has not been my experience.  When I still had Win7 and uninstalled Norton choosing to remove all data because I was about to install another AV I chose to install the IDSS when prompted and it was online only.  I had a local vault at that time.

Your mileage may vary.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Okay, so Norton Security (retail w Local & Comcast only w Local) upon uninstall choosing to remove all data may/does not retain Local with opt for IDSS.
Did your Local migrate to Online or did you have to Import...?
Oh, since you chose to remove all data.....you setup IDSS Online and Imported... ?

And does backdoor work with IDSS to create Local...?
Is IDSS installer cross browser...?

Re: opt for IDSS w Norton uninstall + Local before uninstall...?

I already had an online vault at the time so I only needed to sign in to my account.

And does backdoor work with IDSS to create Local...?

No idea.

Is IDSS installer cross browser...?

Yes, IE, Chrome, and when it worked, FF.  IDSS downloads and installs after Norton is uninstalled but I can't remember now whether that is before or after the required restart.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

IDSS downloads and installs after Norton is uninstalled...

Ah, so IDSS is not the Toolbar/IDSafe retained from Norton Security program uninstall.
Okay, IDSS downloads and installs after Norton is uninstalled.
So, even with retain Local vault data.  IDSS install is "Online vault".

And PhoneMan reports "installed IDSS and was able to use the backdoor to add my Local vault".     And add my Local vault .... means Importing Local vault dat backup to Online.  Or, add Local vault means creating Local vault with backdoor and signing in with just vault password.    Hmm......

I used the backdoor to add the Local vault as this was a new install of IDSS and did not have any vault.

PhoneMan,
,,,,and you can Sign In to backdoor created IDSS Local with just local vault password....same as backdoor created Local with Norton Security.

been wondering for awhile if Norton (retail or ISP) users can leave Norton for whatever reason and still retain Local as readily as it is to retain Online.

Re: opt for IDSS w Norton uninstall + Local before uninstall...?

@ all,

The IDSS is an Online Vault and only an Online Vault - tied to a Norton Account.  It never has been and probably never will be a Local Vault tied to a Windows User Account.

As I remember the procedure, you uninstall the Norton Product - be it NIS, NS, Comcast's Norton or whatever and opt in to the free IDSS.  At this point in time you create an Online IDSS Vault and I believe there is an option during the configure to enter an email address for an existing Norton Account or create a new Norton Account - the bottom line being that you need the Norton Account.  Once the Norton Account is logged into (or a new one created), you have to set up the Vault  password.  After the Vault password is set up, you can log into your New IDSS Vault and Import the log-ins from the Exported Local Vault you had before.

If you did not have a Local Vault in the past and use the same email address for your Norton Account - the IDSS should pick up your previous Online Vault entries.

Additionally, the IDSS can never be installed while a retail Norton Product which contains an ID Vault is installed (even if only a Local Vault such as Comcast version).  If you try to install IDSS with a Norton Product already installed you will see the following.

Hope I answered all the questions.

Okay, after uninstall Norton Security and IDSS Online setup.
I wonder whether at some future Norton Security install I can still backdoor setup Local.
I'm imagining as long as I have backup.dat + IDDStor2.dat .....that I'll be able to backdoor setup Local whether I retain data or not at time of Norton Security uninstall.
As I recall I had to delete Online before backdoor Local would establish...?

Re: opt for IDSS w Norton uninstall + Local before uninstall...?

Like I said I did a CLEAN install of IDSS and was able to use my IDDStor2.dat to backdoor my Local vault and yes it uses the password that is part of the original Local vault.

This was last summer so don't know if anything has changed.

In the future if you want to clean install NS again then use the IDDstor2.dat to backdoor your Local vault.

.....and you do not Sign In to your Norton account to access backdoor IDSS vault...?

That is correct. It's a Local vault and you do not need to sign in to Norton Account.

All I can say is to try it. You can always do a clean install of  NS and use the backdoor to install your Local vault.

Yeah, I'll have to try CP uninstall Norton Security + retain local data + opt for IDSS and see.

IE9 ?  On a Vista system?

I wasn't aware there were different IDSS versions for different browsers.

Yeah, I played around on my dust collector Vista box.   I wasn't aware of anything IDSS first hand till a few hours ago.   IDK what version(s) I'm supposed to have.  Just versions as I observe after "Check for updates" + HotFix.   Thanks
