Will Norton Antivirus work with the OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta?

Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
The short answer is, "Not yet." I had to uninstall NIS to access the Internet after installing the El Capitan beta driver. Removed and re-added the NIS license to reinstall, and received a nastygramme warning that I was running an incompatible operating system level.

Thanks GordonKeehn, will wait patiently for them to update!
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
I posted the below in another thread. But its worth repeating here. But first, NAV DOES work under El Capitan. The problem is that due to a network issue (WiFi), you can't get NAV updates when it shuts down network access (keep reading). And in my case, it is Norton Security (specifically), that fails, the NAV portion still seems to work.
Here is my earlier post (today):
"I've spent the day failing the same way. El Capitan and Norton Security don't work together. But, there may be some help (work around?). I opened Activity Monitor and repeatedly restarted "SymDaemon" (about 5-6 times) and miraculously, my WiFi began working again! Now I've only done this once, and I'm a little afraid to find out if that was absolutely the work-around, but I'm fairly confident. I only stumbled upon this. I was trying to terminate the processes but they automatically restart. Give it a try, I'd love to know if it worked for you! r/ Gene"
So, the WiFi connection seems to be dropped. Restarting the SymDaemon seems to have reset the problem. I won't know for certain until it shuts down again and I'll try to restart the daemon. I was using the WiFi connection for hours before it shut down today. r/ Gene
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
Well, I lost my WiFi again and nothing I could do to fix it, short of uninstalling Norton Security.
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
I just got done dealing with Norton Chat. Security for Windows 10 is ready weeks before the next release. Security for Mac may not have a fix until weeks after the official release is out. my suggestion is to contact Norton through every means and let them know that we want this fixed. I would have expected them to be a part of the developer program so they could start getting their next version ready for the next OS X before the release, just like they are doing with windows. We are vulnerable until then. if enough people contact them, they might resolve these issues faster, in order to keep us as loyal customers.
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
I did not check before upgrading from OS X 10.4.5 to OS X 10.11 (El Capitan beta). As others reported earlier, the Norton firewall shut down my internet connectivity. After rebooting my modem and routers, and trying unsuccessfully with all my browsers and ping, and confirming that my phone could still get out using the same routers, I jumped to the conclusion that the problem was Norton Internet Security (firewall). I uninstalled Norton and rebooted (might not have been necessary) and connectivity returned. I suspect that NAV is not affected but I'm going to refrain from reinstalling that part of it for a day or two, until I have a better understanding of the nature and scope of the problem. It would be nice, of course, if Symantec would give us some idea of when we can re-protect our machines but that would be unlike the company. It would be even nicer if Symantec's Norton division would invite those of us who have encountered, reported, and worked around the problem to beta test the next version. (I've been beta testing since DESQview and Central Point Software's PC Tools but as far as I can remember, I've never had a chance to do it with Symantec.)
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
I can understand support for a new OS/X release lagging behind Beta availability, but to be told that support will not be ready by GA sounds strange unless this is Symantec's way of announcing that Mac support isn't strategic.
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
The issue is not unique to Norton. I've tried the latest versions of 4 top AV programs. All have failed to install in pretty much the same way.
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
It irritates me, but I suppose I can't complain that Norton isn't compatible with a beta OS. However, they should be ready on the official release of El Capitan... Wonder if they'll extend my license one month for every month Norton isn't compatible?
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
Same problem although I could re-enable network connectivity by disabling the Norton firewall and rebooting. I than re-enabled the firewall and the connection was maintained however all attempts to scan failed - see screenshot at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21145471/NortonFail.png and so I uninstalled.
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
you would think the world is coming to an end with Norton's reaction and communications regarding Windows 10 but not a peep about El Capitan.
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
Hi
I here that os x 10.10.11 is coming out at the end of September. Why is Norton doing this to Mac users. It not fair that windows users get more attention about new Norton releases.
Thanks
Norton should update there Mac forums mor often.

Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
Hi,
How is Norton working with el captain beta software. I will never install a beta software of any os on my system. Gerry said that Norton is working on updating there software so Norton security works with el captain. I will not install el captain until early December.
Thanks
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
ryan816,
That does not really help the situation. A lot of folks beta test software, and the pre-release Apple OS X operating systems are one of them. We do it because we like to improve the product and try new things.
The virtualization of the OS X platform is nowhere near as common, easy, or practical os other Linux or Windows platforms. Saying you never install beta software means you're either rich and have play hardware to install stuff on, or are virtualizing everything.
I don't think anyone here is throwing hissyfits that NOrton won't support the public release of the OS - merely showing concern nothing has been released to work with the Beta. Not helping raise such concerns would put the entire responsibility on Norton - of which I'm sure they're prepared for but it can't hurt.
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
As Gerry mentioned in the thread https://community.norton.com/en/comment/6652181#comment-6652181, we are working to resolve this issue. Until the product updates are available, the workaround to get back the Internet connection is
1. Open Norton Security => Advanced => Firewall => Connection Blocking => Turn OFF.
2. Reboot the computer.
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
Hi,
Any news on the Norton security update for el captain?
Thanks
Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
Update.
I downloaded and executed the application "removeSymantecMacFiles" from the Symantec web site (sorry, I forgot to save the URL, just search on the name). This works better than using the NS Uninstall (uninstall leaves several files behind).
Then I went to my Norton account and (re)downloaded the latest version of the Norton Security Install files ("Install Norton Security.app" V6.2f85). I then downloaded and installed the GM (Gold Master) version of El Capitan (from the Mac App Store app, select the Purchased tab. Should be at or near the top - OS X El Capitan GM Candidate).
I first installed El Capitan, restarted. THEN installed NS, restarted, performed a Live Update and restarted again. It's been about four days and everything appears to be working flawlessly.
Your mileage may vary!

Assuming others followed my suggestions, it hasn't worked for everyone. So again, your mileage may vary...
But, glad to hear it's working for you James. It's hard to sleep at night knowing my computer is naked and unprotected ;-)

Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
An update to El Capitan (10.11.1) was released and is available via Updates in the App Store. Installing it now. Will update later with result.

Re: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta
For some reason the patch is not available for all to use/test. I followed all the steps un-installed norton, re-installed but norton won't activate. I can surf but norton is inoperative, live update won't pull in the patch. Advise and steps/access would be great.
