Hi
I have had Norton Security Premium for a long time
I am travelling overseas (first time since W11 and O365 on new PC) and accessing my emails through the hotel wifi.
I am getting error code 0x80042108
Could this be something Norton is blocking?

The Outlook 0x80042108 error occurs when you have incorrectly typed the name of the POP3 email server or because you do not have access to the Internet.

Thanks, but neither of those is the reason
First I am using teh same laptop as I have been using at home without any changes to the POP3 or any other internet or Outlook profile settings
Second, I submitted this question via the Norton Communities web site immediately after noticing the problem and GOOGLING for suggestions so I was definitely connected
Third, I saw the notification response on my phone so I forwarded the Norton reply alert using one of my other Exchange accounts on my phone - first tried to send sent by my POP3 account .. could not send, then I tried using used one of my Exchange accounts on the same phone to forward the alert to it self (send and receive as the same exchange email) and it was received on my laptop

It was worth a try. I was in Portugal earlier this year using Windows 11 and Office 365 without issue.
I must admit to some of my customers having issues with Outlook when trying to send using SMTP a little while ago. It was saying that the emails were not being sent under TLS 1.2 when they clearly were. It turned out that they were all old BT customers using Office 365 and that was quite literally the only connection between them that I could find. I created Gmail accounts for them and altered the smtp line from smtp.office365.com to smtp.gmail.com and they all suddenly worked.
Have you tried turning the VPN off? If you try to use Outlook in a web browser with the VPN on then it just sits there. I think it must be trying to redirect all over the place.

I don't think I have any VPN turned on ????
it was working at home wifi
working at airport lounge wifi
working on board plane wifi
but hasn't worked on my PC here connected to the hotel wifi
... but my phone connected to same hotel wifi is receiving, but not sending

All. This is a Norton issue due to A/V spam scanning. Disable the Norton Outlook spam add-in temporarily, reset the Norton firewall, and restart the computer. Lets see if that clears the issue.

I tried safe mode .. no difference
Also not sure why this has only started being a problem from here in the hotel wifi?
It worked fine in the airport lounges and on board the aircraft in flight

How do I turn off the Norton Outlook thing?
Any idea why has this only started her eon the hotel wifi?
It all worked OK in the airport lounges and indeed inflight with the aircraft wifi
.. and why are my Exchange accounts working and only the POP3 failing .. all through the same Outlook screen

If it works down at the local McDonalds then it has to be something that the hotel is doing or you didn't tick one of the boxes on the blurb page that comes up where you accept their terms and conditions.
How about 'forgetting' the connection and then let it find it again?

Are you working yet?
I've had something not too different. All my browsers would not me log into Hotmail and some Microsoft related sites. Other web sites did not seem to be affected.
It turned out that Digital Fingerprint Protection was active in my Iolo SystemCare. I turned this off and Hotmail worked again.
It took me weeks to find it as other computers did not have the same problem.
