page blocked - could I have been infected?

I was on a website called halo3forum.com when a page was blocked with a symbol of the red circle and x, claiming that this page was suspicious. I am concerned about this because there have been numerous times in which I have received a Norton messages about an attack being blocked while on this site. The only reason I visited a few more times was because I thought that these messages may have been errors, as these messages have appeared on deviantart.com, one of the most popular art sites on the internet, and many of the users on the halo3 site seemed to be very computer literate and so I doubt they would visit the site if it contained viruses. Additionally halo3forum.com was marked as green by both Mcafee and Norton.

I am not very experienced with computers, so I was wondering, what is the probably that my PC was infected? Since  this page was block for being suspicious and it was marked green, all while I received messages claiming that Norton blocked several attacks, I was wondering if something that Norton was not aware of may have gotten through the the protection and infected my PC.

I suppose I should also mention that this site had a load of ads - whether or not that is relevent I am not quite sure, but I remember someone mentioning that many sites with viruses generally have a lot of ads. However the ads on this site were for mainstream products such as Proactive, Far Cry 2, and Dominos Pizza.

Re: page blocked - could I have been infected?

Popularity does not mean the site is safe; no matter how badly you want to go there.  In fact that is what most malware orchestrations look for since people will go there no matter what.  Norton's Safe Web rating means that the site if free of malware that a user could download or be forced on the users system by just visiting the page.  It does not mean that while on this safe page that someone or something will not try and attack your system.  The two could be totally unrelated; they could also be related (third party is monitoring net traffic for signs that someone is at this site, then tries to get that system) but not caused by anything directly on the web page.

However , you are safe; Norton blocked the attack; this time.  Not that Norton will not continue to try it's best to keep you safe and secure; but why tempt fate?  All software, so far, is fallible.

For an added measure, update your N360 by running Live Update until it replies there are no more updates and run a full system scan.  The only thing it should find (if you have the setting enabled for tracking cookies removal) is cookies.

Re: page blocked - could I have been infected?

I did the comprehensive scan and the live update.

When you said " you are safe; Norton blocked the attack; this time." you are also referring to the event in which norton blocked the suspicious page, correct? Because the possibility that I may have received a virus from that page is my greatest concern and I hope that anything harmful on that page was blocked from my PC.

Thank you for the helpful reply

I mean that yes Norton blocked the attack whether from the page itself or from outside the page (as I described earlier).  The best defense is not to go where you can get in to trouble; software is great but brain-ware is better!
