Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

Lately, every time I try to sign into my NPM I get a message that opens instead that says "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again." This is before I have the option to type in any password, it's right after clicking on NPM. Sometimes if I walk away for a half hour, it corrects itself. Other times I have to restart the computer. This happens while using Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Any idea what gives?

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

Wonder of Wonders! Now it's working, and I did nothing after the Norton Tech messed around in my computer. It's now working with Edge, Chrome and through Norton 360 program itself. I have NO idea what they did, or when they did it. I just got back home and for giggles tried to access via Edge. It worked, so I tried Chrome. So for the time being, all is well in Password Manager World.

Thank all of you again for your suggestions and help.

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

First you might check that you have latest NPM Ext.  version 7.5.2.62.  Do you by chance have VPN enabled while trying to sign in to NPM?  That's when I get the message you are referencing. It's when I have VPN turned on. When I turn it off I can then sign into NPM and access my vault in Chrome.  Once the vault opens I then turn VPN back on and it will work ...until it happens again. This has been my work around anyway.  Norton is aware of this issue.

At least you can sign in. Right now, all I get is the never ending circle over and over and over again. This SUCKS lemons! This has been going on for two days now. Anyone else having problems signing into their PM (Vault)? I can't even access it going through Norton's website.

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

I uninstalled an reinstalled the Chrome extension and it's STILL not working. I can sign into Norton and can't open the PM (Vault) from there either. Something is amiss. Heck of a way to run a railroad! I tried it on two other computers too.. same result.. never ending circle with no place to put in my password. AND I need to change a password... grrrrrrrr. Same thing with Edge Browser, except I do get an error message saying "Something went wrong, please try again." So yep.. something IS wrong and I am at a loss as to how to fix it. <sigh>

Have you all cleared your browser(s) cache / cookies and restarted your browser just to validate that isn't the issue? PWM version 7.5.2.62 is the latest version on both Edge and Opera GX my side and work as advertised.

Message: "Sorry, Something went wrong. Please try again." when signing in to Norton Password Manager

This problem occurs when you try to login to the Norton Password Manager extension. To resolve this problem, run Norton File Cleanup and then restart your computer.

Sometimes, a backend service outage or server maintenance can stop you from accessing the Norton Password Manager vault. We will work on fixing the issue at the earliest. To identify if there is a service outage, check the Norton Service Status page.

STEP 1

RUN NORTON FILE CLEANUP

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the main window, double-click Performance.

  3. Click File Cleanup.

STEP 2

RESTART YOUR COMPUTER

  1. Exit all programs.

  2. Restart computer.

What can I do next if this doesn't work (didn't work). I checked the Norton status and it 'says' all services are running without problems...except for me, they're not. Arghhhhhhhhh!

Thanks for any additional suggestions you can give.

Yep.. did all that, plus did a file clean up, plus unistalled and re-installed PM. Still not working. Any other suggestions? I really need PM to be working again. <sigh>

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling your Chrome browser and adding back extensions?  Is Chrome your default browser in your Norton360 Interface for Internet Security for PWM?

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

Tibbies4life, I have tried everything. Finally in desperation, I went to the Norton Support site, and got connected with a Norton Tech, who took over my computer, and after two hours of her trying different stuff, she couldn't fix whatever the problem is with me accessing Password Manager. She referred everything she'd done to the higher up techs, who are supposed to get back with me withing 24-48 hours. I've been through that Rodeo before, so I'm not holding my breath.  I'm about ready to just trash Norton PM and use something else. This is such nonsense. They can't fix their product, how in the world do they expect us to?
Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. You would think that since I can sign onto my Norton Account, that I'd be able to access it through that site... but ummmmm.. nope....no can do. <sigh> Anyhow... IF they get it fixed and IF this thread is still open, I will try and let everyone know what they did.

Do you have the mobile app for Norton Password Manager? Could you try that?

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

Good news!

FWIW I have had that identical message about something went wrong please try again later but I don't use Norton Password Manager so I suspect it's something else triggering it -- as you found out!

I suppose you did do a RESTART (not a shutdown/Start) to see if it was something was being carried over since SHUTDOWN saves from the system to your drive and then uses it to start up more rapidly. Turning off Fast Restart can sometimes fix this kind of error.

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

About same here.

I bougt a new phone Oneplus6 to Oneplus10 Pro. I had everything working fine. I used Mobile Unlock in in Edge extension.

After mobile change. I removed Mobile unlock and removed old phone. I have tried to add my new phone from mobile NPM to devices in my desktop extension. Not working. I get an error "An unexpected error has occurred. We're unable to register your mobile with NPM. Please try again." From desktop mobile unlock naturally does not work without a phone....

I have all Norton services runnig fine, done also N360 security file clean-up, booted, no VPNs. Just a new phone.

What should I do?

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

@juhakari, do you have the NPM on your new phone?

Kudos0

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

Yes, both work using passwords manually.. Only desktop mobile unlock is problem. And it obvious cause my new phone is not accepted as a device at desktop software. So the combination from desktop to phone mobile unlock link is broken. Worked with old phone with firefox and edge. It is little sad because it was so easy and safe way to authenticate.

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

Be sure you have the NPM app open and logged into your vault when you are setting up Mobile Unlock from the extension on your desktop.

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

Yes, I have both them running and vault is open and usable on both devices. Today, I have got a success to add my mobile with "settings - vault - add a phone" with NPM in my mobile. But there is no device still available in desktop extension. So, mobile unlock setup is still not working cause device is missing.

Re: Password Manager "Sorry, something went wrong"

After working with a Norton Tech trying to solve this problem I finally got my vault to work. Let's hope it works tomorrow. So I signed off all my browsers, cleared the caches, and uninstalled the extension. Then I shut down the computer for the night and reinstalled the extension and logged on to my browser and the extension.  I have noticed that My Norton is still requesting I set up Password Manager.  I'm not going to set that up. Also before I did all of this I did log on to My Norton Secure VPN.  I am not sure if that made a difference, but I am sharing what help me solve this problem.

Using the VPN while trying to access your Norton Password Manager vault will cause issues. You need to turn off the VPN to log into your vault.
