Please add OpenDNS to Norton Core

OpenDNS is used and required by ALL US Federal government agencies and most US based businesses. It is also considered amongst the top two fastest and most secure DNS services globally. Unfortunately, it is sorely lacking from the Norton Core app and router. It would be greatly appreciated if you could add for DNS selection.

Re: Please add OpenDNS to Norton Core

All you can do is ask. Norton is currently using their own ConnectSafe DNS filtering service.

EDIT

And the Core is designed for home users. Not businesses and government agencies.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Please add OpenDNS to Norton Core

True, but OpenDNS provides all the protections Norton’s Secure DNS does for Home Users as well, is extremely easy to use, and is very customizable AND is free too. And many home users also telework. Why not make their home network more compatible with their business network yet also super secure at the same time? All they have to do is add OpenDNS as another DNS option in Settings and that’s it.

Wait, it doesn't use the DNS that was assigned by DHCP on its wan port from the ISP?

Thanks for posting this RIchard!  I also use OpenDNS, and would also like to continue to have that option.  Hopefully they will add this very quickly.

How do you think they are doing the content filtering? They are leveraging their own DNS service, ConnectSafe.

I do not have a unit yet, as I am not in USA. But you may be able to choose no filtering, which would default to your ISP's DNS. But lowering the protection you paid for.

Re: Please add OpenDNS to Norton Core

You are not limited to Norton ConnectSafe.  You can change your DNS service to your ISP's, Google DNS, or Neustar Advantage.  Unfortunately, OpenDNS is not an option.

SendofJive, trying to get OpenDNS made an option as many people use it.

What content filtering? How are they going to accomplish any content filtering (other than basic parental control) by changing the answers to DNS queries? Won't work properly for secure sites, might be able to block a few ad domains.

Re: Please add OpenDNS to Norton Core

OpenDNS does all the filtering Norton Core does, but with more fine grain control over the filtering than with Norton Core, like adding specific sites to be blocked or allowed, lower ping (meaning sites and other apps actually load data faster, more DNS servers than Norton (more than 5,000 globally for OpenDNS vs 500-1,000 for Norton), etc.

Norton's ConnectSafe blocks known malicious sites, and with the correct level of filtering, it will block adult sites and sites with violence etc.  See   https://connectsafe.norton.com/

The Core also incorporates features of Norton Family.   https://family.norton.com/web/

Re: Please add OpenDNS to Norton Core

Those are trivial features and already in Norton (I would hope), how do we use our ISP's dns?
