Please read: Norton Security/Norton Internet Security crashes

If you have been having problems with Norton Internet Security or Norton Security crashing your Mac (resulting in a "You must restart your Mac" message) then please contact me privately here on the forums.

We have tested a fix to the problem, and we believe it should fix the issue. However we haven't had much luck in reproducing the problem locally. It seems to be related to streaming certain kinds of media files.

For those of you have can still reproduce the issue (and I sincerely apologize), I can give you a "hotfix" that you can apply locally to see if it will fix the issue for you. We'll release a permanent fix hopefully in the coming weeks after getting confirmation that the problem is resolved.

Thanks, and again I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Re: Please read: Norton Security/Norton Internet Security crashes

I had Norton Internet Security on my Mac for a pretty long time, and I naturally restarted my computer after installation. I remember it asked a restart of the Mac after each update.

I did not really see the problem - I thought it had to do with the boot protection from rootkits.

Nowadays, with Norton Security, I re-do the same: restart the Mac, but it does not ask me after the simple updates.

Re: Please read: Norton Security/Norton Internet Security crashes

I'm having essentially the same issues as reported above, but it is with Norton Antivirus 12.7 (57) running on OS X 10.10.2. I'm told that my Mac had to restart and when I explored around a bit noticed the machine was reporting a Panic Report. Read on a post on another blog about disabling the Vulnerability Protection. Has anyone had luck with this? If not, is there a work around or is Symantec going to release a fix to this?

All,

We've released a patch to all our customers to fix this issue. LiveUpdate should automatically download the patch in the next couple of hours. You must restart your Mac for the update to take effect.

Please let us know if this addresses the issue. Sorry for the delay, as this was a hard problem to track down and reproduce reliably. Thanks to those here on the forums who contacted us and provided us with more informatin.

Today, on 30-Mar-2015, Norton Antivirus 12.7 reboot my Mac again.

Re: Please read: Norton Security/Norton Internet Security crashes

Nothing new has been released. The patch was made available to Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security and Norton Security customers same day (March 25th). Your Mac may not have received the update when it was made available initially for some reason. If you have already restarted your Mac then everything should be up to date. Let us know if you are asked to restart again.

Re: Please read: Norton Security/Norton Internet Security crashes

Sorry for the problems @luke1970. Can you please send me a private message with one of the kernel panic files from your /Library/Logs/DiagnostReports folder? This will tell us whether you have updated to the latest product and whether the crashes you are seeing are the previously fixed crashes or a different issue.

If you need help sending me this information, start with just a private message and I'll give you instructions.
