Re: Please update Norton Removal Tool

Hello Artem. Are you getting the R&R tool from this link? And logged into your machine as administrator?

@Artem

Is this the message you are seeing?

It appears the Knowledge Based Article the link in it takes you to is very old (2015) and I suggest you do not follow it.  Even the NRT download link provided in the KB provides the above message, and I do not believe the registry is worth attempting to correct it.

As SoulAsylum suggested the route to go presently is to use the Advanced Setting of Remove Only of the NRnRT.

Re: Please update Norton Removal Tool

Hi Artem:

If you follow the generic link https://www.norton.com/nrt it will re-direct you to a Norton support article titled Download the Removal Tool to Uninstall Norton that includes a download link for the new Norton Remove and Reinstall (NRnR) tool and instructions on how to use the "Remove Only" option in the Advanced settings.

Re: Please update Norton Removal Tool

Hello

Since version 22.11.2.7 was just released on Nov 13, even www.norton.com/nrt is going to be not the latest since the new version is being released in a phased in manner still and the shortcut links most likely haven't been updated to the latest version. You will get 22.11.1.41 with that. So please make sure you do run the manual Live Update until you get to version 22.11.2.7 restarting as necessary. When all finished, then it's a good idea to restart one more time  and check once again. Sometimes you don't receive the whole new download at one time. By restarting at the end, it gives Norton a chance to get to the registry when it is not being in use.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Artem:

Please update Norton Removal Tool, fix it or do something...

Hi Artem:

Just to clarify, the old Norton Removal Tool (NRT) that was designed to completely remove Norton from your system has been replaced by the advanced Remove Only option in the Norton Remove and Reinstall (NRnR) tool.  See the instructions at https://www.norton.com/nrt.

If you want to do a thorough wipe of Norton from your system you can uninstall Norton from the Control Panel first and select the option to "Please remove all user data" to ensure static files (e.g., .txt. .log, .dat etc.) for configuration settings and security logs are also removed, and then re-boot and run the NRnR tool in Remove Only mode to perform the final wipe. If you use the Norton Identity Safe to manage your login passwords this will not remove your online vault, but just be warned that the old-style local vault (last offered with Norton v19.x) is a .dat file that will be erased from your local hard drive if you select "Please remove all user data".

If you just want to do a quick refresh of your Norton product (i.e., a remove and reinstall) with the latest available installer then run the NRnR tool in normal mode.  See the instructions at https://www.norton.com/nrnr.  As floplot noted <here>, the latest available installer might require a few manual LiveUpdates before you are fully patched with the latest product version and definition updates.
