Popups in Chrome browser are endless

This used to happen intermittently but now it happens many, many times per day. I am using Chrome and Norton 360 for windows (Win 10) and the following Popup telling me that "We'll highlight suspicious links in Webmail, Facebook, Twitter and other accounts" comes up over and over and over. How do I make this stop???

My Norton 360 is coming up for renewal in a couple of months and honestly I am looking to jettison it after so many years and go to something else that stops bugging me every hour or less.

Not sure if I can add a screenshot but I will try. I'm sure you must all be seeing this?

Maybe, refresh your Norton Safe Web extension install.

Protect your browsing experience from suspicious links using Norton Safe Web

The Link Guard feature in Norton Safe Web offers protection from unsafe hyperlinks when you access them in your web browsers. It looks for the reputation of the URL's that appear in your emails and social media pages. If any URL is found suspicious, Link Guard provides a warning before you open the website or before sharing the URL with your family and friends.

On finding the suspicious URLs, Link Guard highlights them in red and the pop-up appears over the suspicious URL.

The Link Guard feature is available for all users who have installed the Norton Safe Web extension. To know how to turn off Link Guard, see Turn off Link Guard in Norton Safe Web.

Hello GeneJockey. The issues you are seeing are related to Link Guard which is a setting in the Norton Safe Web extension for your browser. Follow this article to disable it and the popups should relent.

The problem is that I don't actually want to disable the feature, as in, if I go to a suspicious link, I WANT Norton to alert me. That's what I am paying for after all.

But this is not alerting me to a suspicious link - it just keeps endlessly "advertising" the feature. OK, OK, enough already - I know you are there and active - you don't have to keep telling me that you are "on call" so to speak.

Re: Popups in Chrome browser are endless

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be limited to Chrome. I'm getting ever more 'adverts' directly from the software suggesting I buy tracker blockers, registry fixers, and all manner of claptrap.

Directly to Norton: Your software is now beginning to behave like the sleaziest junk. I suggest you limit yourself to your core service or look forward to losing your customers

Re: Popups in Chrome browser are endless

I don't get a single popup from Safeweb except when I try to visit an unsafe link. Safeweb is the only Norton browser addin I use.   When I do try to visit a bad link I get Norton blocking it (if Chrome didn't block it already that is). The difference for me maybe is that I have "adblock plus" installed in chrome and this (perhaps) is knocking off all the Norton junk popups.  Give it a go and see if it makes a difference.  I set it to block all adverts and other annoyances like this:

I do have ABP disabled for this forum site though as blocking on this site seems to stop you using the site and making posts etc.

Re: Popups in Chrome browser are endless

Hi Gene,

I have the same issue and feel your pain!

I've just re-installed Norton on a repaired laptop and kept getting so many pop-ups about it protecting various things, despite disabling the notifications by clicking on options and clearing the feed.

I've just gone in to my Norton account page and settings and then went through every page to disable notifications I could possibly find.

I also went in to chrome settings, more tools and extensions and Norton safe web, details, site access and changed this to "on click"

Didn't allow it in incognito. I went down the list and clicked on extension options and unclicked share data with Norton and Link Guard-
Identify unsafe links in Webmail, Facebook, and Twitter.. although this can't have been the issue for me as I don't use any of these apps on this laptop - but I was desperate! haha

I then went to my search function on the laptop and went to allow or block pop ups in the control panel. In the internet properties area, I clicked on privacy and then turned on my "turn on pop up blocker" then "apply" and "ok"

I then went to the advanced tab and clicked a few things like zoom reset, just because I was "on a roll" but not related to my frustrating issue.

Anyway- somehow the pop-ups have stopped...at least for now, so apologies for my rambling but I thought if just one thing I've said helps you- my mission was accomplished.

Fingers crossed, all the best & hope you have a fab Easter....big hugs X

As a follow-up to my first post, there is an older thread where this is discussed at length. Please note the exact symptoms there and show in screenshots.
