Problems with Identity Safe after installing FF 17

I am having an issue with Identity Safe after upgrading Fire Fox from version 16 to version 17. It doesn't fill the fields for access to any web pages that requires forms to be filled, but before this upgrade everything was working fine. Any suggestions?

I am running W7 x64 and Norton 360 ver. 20.2.0.19

Hi BigSailorman,

This is a known situation that Norton is working on.  See Tony's post here:

Hi Friends,

Just adding my experience to the experience of other users.

Updated to FF 17 & Identity Safe stopped working.

Good that it's a known problem....

Tony's post speaks to auto fill.

Manual Fill does not work for me.

Using copy/paste as Tony suggests.

Thanks Tony

The new toolbar does work with FF16.0.2 so you can go back until they fix the problem.

The copy and paste does not work for me either. I am unable to highlight and copy the user name. Good thing I have them all written down.

Hi bjm,

Tony's posted work around states:

"Customers can reach to the logins list page in the product’s login management UI and manually copy/paste the username and passwords in the login form before manually submitting the form."

IMHO it is written in some kind of Symantec language that the engineers, QA folks or someone who doesn't work with the public on a regular basis and speak their own language understand, but us poor folks not "in the inner circle" do not understand.  So I'll give my take of it and explain the only thing I could figure out his staement really meant.

First of all to the best of my knowledge it only applies to NIS 20.2.0.19 users - so that would be why NIS 2012 users can not find what I feel they are talking about.   The Login Assistant does not exsist in NIS 2012.

OK here goes my take:

When you are faced with a log-in screen that does not auto fill in NIS 2013, The Login Assistant opens as show in the following screenshot:

You will notice the login user and password are blank and the Login assistant is open,. Once you hover over the Username it will appear and the Copy option will appear.  Clicking on the Copy will permit you to navigate to the Login Name block, right click and select Paste - this will place the Useername in the box.

Next you go back to the Login Assistant, Click on the SHOW, which will display the Password and the Show will change to Copy.  Select copy, navigate to the signin and riht click the Password box and select Paste.  This will place the password in that block.

Next with both Login Name and password entered, manually sign in using the Sign In button - which I neglected to include in the screenshots - it is below the last line shown in the 2nd screen shot.

I sure hope that helps someone out!

@ All,

I am LOL!

After all that explaination re: Login Assistant, SendofJive just informed me the behavior is the same in NIS 2012 - thus those users will have to Select Edit Logins - select the Login they wish to copy the User name and Password from one at a time and then paste them into the opened logon page of the site they desire to go to and manually Sign-in.

I'm going back to my corner now!

Hello Yank,

Thanks for introducing me to 2013 Login Assistant.

I'm just using copy/paste from Edit Logins.

I am having tghe same problem using the Comcast version of NIS, version 20.2.0.19. The toolbar vesion is 2012.2.2.2. The symptoms and workaround are as described in a prior post by Yank (use the login assistant, hover, copy the id and paste, then show the password, copy and paste). I hope they get this fixed soon.

Re: Problems with Identity Safe after installing FF 17

Once again another Firefox update, & another complete failing of Norton to get its act together.

What use is software which can't be relied upon?  I'm now left "high & dry" with my various account logins, & wishing I'd just stuck to Firefox's own in-built password manager, which quite happily syncs the data via cloud storage to all of one's devices.

When is Norton actually going to try coordinating with Mozilla/ the Firefox team, & ensuring that the 2 products work together BEFORE the release of any updates?

Make sure the toolbar version you have is 2013.2.2.3. I just got it a few minutes ago, and it works perfectly. Had to reboot, though.

Re: Problems with Identity Safe after installing FF 17

A couple of hours ago Norton LiveUpdate downloaded something which required me to restart my PC.  Obviously I got hopeful as I knew that it would almost certainly be the fix that I've been awaiting for the last few days now.

However, after the restart, I can't now even get past the first stage with Identity Safe.  It requires me to log in to my Norton Account, which I can't do.  Norton designed this ridiculous & muddled system whereby you need different passwords for the "account", for the "safe", for access to "Settings, in Norton 360" (&, of course, a password for this Norton community forum!)  This always adds to my confusion, since I can never remember what the difference is between my Norton Account & my Identity Safe Account (thanks Norton).  I do already have hundreds of internet & PC accounts, after all (40 years playing with computers does this to a person, you know!)

Since I'm having to recall all my Norton passwords from memory at the moment, I've tried them all in an attempt to log into my Norton Account, still to no avail. The furthest I seemed to get was when I entered what I think was the right password (right at the start of this problem), & the input box rejected it & told me that maybe there was some network connectivity problem (which there wasn't). It keeps saying this whenever I enter this particular password.

My question would be, has it effectively locked me out with a time delay for entering a wrong password? (though there is no message to tell me this). Or has it perhaps got some old firewall "rule" setup in Norton 360, for the previous version of Identity Safe, & it's not now recognising the new version of Identity Safe & is blocking it?  Or something else?  I'll keep trying!

Re: Problems with Identity Safe after installing FF 17

UPDATE TO MY LAST POST:  Without doing anything new, the Identity Safe's Norton Account login has finally accepted the password which I first used right at the start, more than an hour ago. I haven't done anything to my firewall, or any additional restarts to my PC in the meantime, for example.  I'm wondering if the problem was at Norton's end all along, perhaps with their servers being swamped by everyone having just downloaded the patch & trying to log in at the same time.  What do you think?

Anyway, so it's finally working again now, but after the last few days of aggravation with Identity Safe (not for the first time, after a Firefox update) I'm seriously thinking of abandoning it.  I may not renew my annual Norton 360 subscription either, since it hasn't exactly helped with the problem.  Norton really need to consider the point I made earlier in this thread: to get their act together with Mozilla/ Firefox, & ensure that their products work together BEFORE releasing another update.

Re: Problems with Identity Safe after installing FF 17

Hi Zener,

FYI:

If you Export your log-ins and save them somewhere you'll have access to them even if your system craps out, you will not have to try to remember them.  You could even use the CSV (Plain text) format to export - just in case you desire to print them out at some time in the future.

Mine are exported to a USB drive and since I do not create many new logins, I exported a fresh copy every three weeks or so - or when I go on a password changing rampage!

Thanks for the tip, I may well do this...

...Though of course, this weakens one's security by having a nice collection of passwords sitting around somewhere.  Now, I could always encrypt them with a nice long password.  Oh, we're back to remembering passwords again!

I'm not advocating printing them out - just telling you what is available.  I do export to USB in both DAT and CSV format.  The main reason I do this is because I still have NIS 2012 on my laptop and a DAT export from 2013 (v 20) product will not Import in to a 2012 product - but a CSV from v 20 will import into 2012.

Hi,

Tony Weiss has said that the 2012 products will not be compatible with Firefox 18 when it is released, but a patch will be released for the 2013 products.

Re: Problems with Identity Safe after installing FF 17

Hello everybody, well.... I made a mistake, I rolled back to version 16, but the one I downloaded was a beta version, and then after receiving the patch, I did the upgrade, but since the FF 16 was a beta version it upgraded to the latest beta version of FF 17. That was the reason why the vault was not working properly.

To make the story short..... I have to upgrade with the release version of FF 17, and everything was working fine and dandy ! ! !

Thankyou for the prompt solution of this little bug.
