Problems with VPN

For the last month I have been experiencing increasing problems with VPN. This is after a long period with just excellent VPN protection. Did something change in late February 2022 with VPN? I am now having so many issues with VPN that I am about to cancel my subscription. The forum is packed with VPN problems. When I just google Norton VPN, there is not a lot of good news. Are all VPN's having such issues, is there a recommendation on one that works properly?

Re: Problems with VPN

After googling and contemplating the VPN issues, maybe it is as simple as server overload. What if the Norton Secure VPN servers (1500?) reached critical overload state in late February 2022? Maybe having reached1 Billion(?) users around the globe = overload? Then all manner of problems set in for all users. Is the same sort of problem not plaguing Netflix at about 9:00pm on many Friday and Saturday evenings?  I can often instantly dial in to Netflix sometime on a Saturday morning to watch the rest of a movie from the Friday evening before, when a sudden outage hit Netflix.

Re: Problems with VPN

My problem is intermittent responsiveness. Works for a period of time after which attempting to turn VPN on, there is no response to a click of the On button. Nothing. A restart resolves the issue but wonder if there is a simpler reset option.  Win11 Pro 21H2. A screenshot is attached FYI.

Re: Problems with VPN

Is it possible that in February 2022, someone completed the development of a tracking system which could identify the use of a VPN or at least Norton's Secure(?) VPN and block it? Did 1000's of sites install this tracking system with the result that suddenly 1000's of normal accessible sites are no longer accessible unless the VPN is turned off? Having cancelled my Norton VPN, I am uneasy about purchasing another VPN in case all will now be blocked by this mysterious (imaginary?) VPN tracker/blocker system.

Re: Problems with VPN

Just contacted a new and major VPN firm with a view to using their product to replace Norton Secure VPN. Unexpected totally candid responses to my questions about Feb 2022 and onward blockages of access to numerous previously easily accessible sites. Just as I suspected, many firms are sensing VPN's and blocking access. You have to go back to your real IP and then they will let you in. My bank, Norton itself and dozens of other sites that I have regularly visited for years, now blocked. Is VPN really useful any more? Why did this become widespread in Feb 2022? -  can find no answer to that one yet. Looks like many of us will have to soldier on with our IP's hanging out in  order to have some sanity in terms of ready access to common sites. Not sure what that means for the VPN firms, could be a nail in the coffin......shades of buggy whips and firemen in steam locos and Putin in the Kremlin(we can only hope - Siloviki?). Fred
