Program Control Almost Unresponsive, Slow User Interface. Need help to clear or reset the list of files.

Hello.

When I try to customize My Norton Security firewall, the tab "Program Control" seems almost unresponsive.

I made a video so you can see for yourself. https://youtu.be/nn2oGSJ-Kj4

I got the "Advanced Program Control" OFF, so I can manage when a program tries to access the web. Then I'd decide to allow it or not.

I am a long time user of Norton Security, since NIS 2008 I Think...

After months using my new Norton Security Premium (current version v.22.8.1.14 over Windows 10 Pro) I realized I choose to block a program that now I wanted to allow access to the web. When I opened the Firewall and went to Program Control, I couldn't go through the list because the user interface was so slow.

I have lot and lots of programs listed in Program Control. I think more than 1000.

I would like to know:

1) Is there a fix for this?

2) Is there a way easier to clear/reset all programs listed in the Program Control tab? Where the settings are stored? I tried the Windows Registry and tried to locate some "ini"or "dat" file, but I couldn't find anything.

3) Of course I could remove and then reinstall Norton, but I'd like to avoid that...

Re: Program Control Almost Unresponsive, Slow User Interface. Need help to clear or reset the list of files.

If you have over a 1000 programs listed, that could be the reason for the slow response. The Norton SmartFirewall is not really meant to be micromanaged. Home users usually do not even know how to create a firewall rule, or what it would do.

I'm not sure if this will clear the Program Control tab, but resetting the firewall may help.

To reset the Norton firewall, from the main Norton Security screen click on Settings - Firewall. On the General tab, click on Reset beside Firewall Reset. As you use programs that access your network/internet, the firewall rules will be created again.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Program Control Almost Unresponsive, Slow User Interface. Need help to clear or reset the list of files.

Thank you for your help.

Yes, clicking That reset button removed every program listed in Program Control and also all custom Rules under Traffic Rules.

The problem seems to be gone. Now programs are starting to request for access to the network. After a Allow or Disallow, they appear at Program Control and the lag is gone.

Thank you.
