Question on setup

Hi folks.

I run a MacBook Pro, 012 mid year (OS= Sierra 10.12.6).  On it, I have long had a copy of VMWare 7.1.3, with Windows 7 installed.  I need and use this ONLY because I have to use MS Visio, for which there is no Mac Version (company requirement).

I'd not used any of this for a couple of years, but recently started with a company that requires Visio, so I'm back in the Visio game.

Because my old Norton had long expired for the VMWare, this week, I renewed it (installed Norton Security) and installed it on the Virtual Machine.  Overall, seems to be working fine.  Since this license allows me to use the Norton on two more devices, I'm wondering if I should use one and put it on my Mac?  If so, would having one copy running on the Mac to protect the MacOS, and a second running on the VM mess things up?  Is there a "right" way to configure this as between the two "machines?"

Any thoughts to help this newbie would be appreciated.  Thanks

Re: Question on setup

Hi,

Thank you for asking the good question. It is always good to protect each copy of the operating system whether it is windows / Mac or real machine / virtual machine. You can install Norton Security on the Mac OS as well as on the Windows 7 virtual machine. There is no special configuration needed for this setup. Please proceed with the installation as the installer prompts you.

I would suggest install on the Mac OS first and make sure Norton Security and Windows 7 virtual machine are working fine and then install Norton Security on the Windows 7 virtual machine.

Thank you

Re: Question on setup

Hi Leenus, and thank you.

I've not yet installed the software to protect the MacOS, but will this weekend.  My only follow up would be this: the installation is already done, up and running on the virtual machine.  So far, everything seems to be running OK.  Any reason then, to not go ahead and install it on the MacOS?    (or should I uninstall it on the VM, install it on the Mac, and then go back and reinstall it on the VM?  Seems both painful, and fraught with potential issue points...)

And perhaps a related question, should I do anything (say exclude the VM file) to put a "fence" of sorts around the two copies of Norton to keep them from getting in each others' way, or will Norton's software be smart enough to do that on it's own?

Again, thanks.

Re: Question on setup

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. If everything is working fine then you can go ahead installing on Mac OS.

As far as I know we don't need to do any fence and anything that kind when we tested here. So I assume Norton Security is smart enough to do that.

Wish you everything to go smoothly.

Thank you
