Re: Feb 14 Update from Norton Family Team (yg)

Question: What is the version number of the new Feb 14th release?

I ask this because when I go to the Download Norton Family link at the bottom of the Norton Family page after you log in, I get version 52.

But I've seen that some PC's are running version 56. I presume this is after it asked to update itself.

So... what is the latest released version right now? And why isn't it available from the download link above?

And the $64,000 question is this:

Symantec has an update mechanism that's been in place for many, many years.

It's called LiveUpdate. As in "Automatic LiveUpdate". You may have heard about it.

Why doesn't Norton Family use it?????

Do you really think that a kid who's just been blocked from going to a site is going to answer Yes to a question that pops up about wanting to update Norton Family?

Give me a break....

Re: Re: Feb 14 Update from Norton Family Team (yg)

Hi dbdan22,

The team released a new Norton Family Windows update 2.6.0.61 today via automatic LiveUpdate.  For details, please check out the post below.

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Family/Feb-21-update-from-Norton-Family-Team/td-p/914695

As for the update on Feb 14.  The release was a Web browser update, which was done on the Norton Family back-end servers, so there is no need for users to do anything for knowing the version number.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

Katie

Does this update address the compatibility issue with java 7?

Re: Re: Feb 14 Update from Norton Family Team (yg)

I chose a PC that was running online family version 2.6.0.56.

I ran LIveupdate. 9 updates came in, and none of them were for Norton Family.

I restarted, and I am still running 2.6.0.56.

Pray tell, how does one get this new update?

Hi adgarner11,

We are working on the Java 7 issue.  It's not included in latest update.

Hi dbdan22,

Can you please try again to see rebooting PC helps (if you haven't done for the second time)?  I'll report this to the team.

Have you tried to download the latest version of Norton Family manually?  Please check out the link below for details on how to install Norton Family.

Re: Re: Feb 14 Update from Norton Family Team (yg)

Katie, as I mentioned in the 2nd sentence of my first post, I very rarely get the latest version when I do a manual download. This has been true for a very long time.
