RE: New Forum Colours

Does anyone else find the yellows just a bit too yellow, the contrast a bit too sharp, and am I the only one who finds red and yellow to be

unpleasant.  I liked it the way it was.

I was sitting here debting is the color change worth a comment! As long as it works to define the areas on a page , My personal opinion is it is a bit ......hmmmm...weak looking?

I will see as first impressions are always a kneejerk reaction.

Agreed that the white on Options is not very visible although the down arrowhead stands out. A black outline font or black would be better.

Could you post a screen shot of what you are seeing?   As well as, your screen resolution and color depth (i.e. 16/24/32 bit color) settings.  I'm not sure that you are seeing what is intended, especially since you make a reference to dark red.

Thanks!!

Re: RE: New Forum Colours

How novel!!!  Asked for a screen shot!

The image gallery allows it to be expanded better.  And Paint didn't really reproduce the colours I'm seeing.  Definitely dark red on white and grey though.

I was really glad, to see these comments about the new screen colors.  I installed a new BIOS update and everything looked like it was working just fine.  I then went to the Norton Community site, to look for any new problems, and WOW, the new screen colors jumped out at me.  I couldn't figure out how the new BIOS updates, could change these screens.  After I read your comments, I realized it wasn't the new BIOS at all.  Except for the "Almost can't see" options tab, I like the new screen colors.

From your image I think you are referring to what I'd call the Subject in Message List.

I wouldn't call mine bright red but redish brown.

Despite the paper salesmen there is only one white .....

Please no change. If it is too bright turn down the control on your monitor! Or wear dark glasses <g>

The yellow bars do not match the yellow of, for instance, the kudos button or of the "Norton Welcome" button (next to "Business", "Partners", "Store" etc., near the top of the browser window). One overall shade of yellow will do :-)

Re: RE: New Forum Colours

Hi mo,

Different monitors will have different "settings" numbers, so one monitor's 80+ will not be the same as another's.

If you want, you can use this online calibration tool to get your monitor roughly close to "optimal viewing".

I will have to respectfully disagree with huwyngr: "If it is too bright turn down the control on your monitor."

I have a CRT monitor calibrated with Adobe Gamma and the current forum color scheme is rather hard on the eyes after a short amount of time.

Perhaps you were calibrating for color printing to bring the monitor image and the color print in line.

But for general use I stand by my advice! <s>

I don't see any need for them to match if they are tones of the same color and don't clash. It would be dull in a binary world ...

Indeed, that is part of synchronizing the CS3 suite for consistent color management across the various color working spaces for each application, not limited just to print but also for the web.

However in doing so, it noticeably reduced the "intensity" of the default monitor settings; in effect "turning down" the brightness as you had mentioned.

But as long as everyone else is happy with it, I'll join ProTruckDriver and break out the sunglasses!

Just like to know, Who pick this color?

As Phil_D stated: " the current forum color scheme is rather hard on the eyes after a short amount of time."

The sunglasses don't work. Can see the screen but can't see the keyboard! lol

Maybe we could take a poll on what color to use on the forum? Norton could pick the colors and we can vote on which color to use.

This color they have now is just not getting it.

I must have misunderstood your earlier message since I thought that said that setting the gamma gave you too bright a white while now you say it reduced it .... but not enough you mean?

The problem with sunglasses is that they reduce the brightness of everything (except black .....)

Re: RE: New Forum Colours

Pass the Visine, I too am finding the new look to be tough on the ol' retinas.  Its not the new color so much as the lack of contrast on the page that gives everything sort of a glare.  By the way, there are some forums that allow members to select their own theme preference from a menu featuring literally dozens of choices.  I'm just sayin'...

Ah, no, my personal avatar has got a healthy, lively, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed yellow colour. The shade of yellow for the forums, on the other hand, is a kind of...sickly yellow. The continuum of the colour yellow seems to be a rather vast (and subjective) one indeed...

I suppose the possibility of reverting to the previous colour scheme is non-existent...? *doleful look*

Re: RE: New Forum Colours

Perhaps Moby it is just for the summer months.

I don't know if it is any easier, some monitors come with the ability to change the temperature setting of the monitor which will change display parameters of the display.  I don't know if any of these other colors are easier on the eyes, especially with the aformentioned way of toning down the colors. I just thought it might be easier for changing the (brightness, was it?) each time you go to or away from certain webpages.

Also a lot of monitors have the ability to set a 'user defined' setting that you could turn on for the Norton Forum for instance and then turn off for surfing other webpages.

Take care,

I would suggest that one should leave one's settings as best for general use at least until the Forum Operators have time to digest the views expressed and try out alternatives.

I can assure you they are not ignoring our reactions.

Re: RE: New Forum Colours

Huwyngr, I agree. Sorry, sometimes I offer information without thinking of how it might affect things in the future.

If I might one bit of information that might be the unpopular post, I was glad (after purchasing a new monitor) to have more color to look at as I was having a bit of a problem distinguising some colors at different points of the board.  Like the blue in Guru or even the red, which I have read some comments on but really shows up against a bright white that displays on the monitor that I have.

As Allen_K had said a while back that there would be some new items come spring and it appears that those items are now being implemented which shows just how versatile this software is and the possibilites are pretty cool compared to many other sites with similar types of software.

Y'all take care,

Re: RE: New Forum Colours

The yellow stripes are too bright - it's literally painful to look at, and mildly nauseating as well.

And I'm not going to adjust my monitors for just one website when all the other websites I visit don't have that problem.

Was the color scheme picked by a disgruntled employee, trying to repel customers? Seems like that sometimes, along with other things about Norton too.

Maybe it's more benign - maybe Symantec is just trying to keep people from spending too much time on the forums, as in the "it's a feature, not a bug" kind of thing.
