Remove Norton from Crashed Computer

Greetings,

I downloaded Norton Security Online from Telus on a Windows 7 machine, which no longer starts. I would like to download it again, but it shows as still being installed on my computer (which doesn't start). How can I remove it?

I already asked this on the Telus forum without a response.

Thanks,
Shane.

Hello

Which doesn't start? The computer or the Security program?

Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit 1903 Norton Core Security Plus 22.19.8.65 Core Firmware 288 Chrome latest version.

Re: Remove Norton from Crashed Computer

Was there another security program installed on the computer before you installed the product from Telus? If so, did you fully remove it with the removal utility for that software. If not it could be causing your problems.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Sorry, the old Windows 7 computer doesn't start.

Just Windows Defender and Windows Firewall, which (as far as I know), can't be uninstalled.

My initial question wasn't very good. I'm trying to install Norton Security Online on a new computer, but the 'license' is still connected to the old computer (I have license in quotes because I'm not sure if it's the correct word). Is it possible to disconnect the license from a computer that doesn't start?

Thanks,
Shane.

@yank is our resident Comcast guru, so he is more experienced with ISP based products. Maybe he can shed some light on this.

Have you tried installing on the new computer? There should be multiple activations available on your subscription.

Have you tried contacting Telus support to ask them to remove the old activation?

Hi Shane

As @peterweb said, Telus Support should be able to provide info to you on the uninstall.

I did see on the Telus site that you can install your Norton on 2 PC's nd also there is a page in their support section linked below that may provide useful to you.

Hopefully this info and peterweb's suggestion of contacting Telus Support will solve this for you.  Please come back and let us know your results.

Hello

Please remove any trial of a security program that may be in the new computer before you install the Telus Norton Online.

Thanks.

The new Windows 10 machine didn't have any trial software on it.

Sorry, I see that now. I was able to install it on my new computer. Also, the link you provided has the following text at the bottom of the page: "If you exceed the maximum number of allowable installations: Check whether you have your Norton product installed on any unused device. If your Norton product is installed on a device that you no longer use, you will be redirected to Norton page where you can simply reclaim the Norton product license from that device."

I thought there might be an account page where licenses could be removed from old devices, but it looks like you just install Norton on a new device, and it will automatically detect if you've exceed your allowable installs.

Thanks,
Shane.

@Shane  FWIW, I Have Comcast (Xfinity) as my ISP and I get the N360 clone Norton Security Suite free from them as part of my contract with them.  They permit 7 PC's max on their program.  Once you try to install the 8th one you see a page appear that says you  are exceeding your permitted number of installs and then (and only then) will a list appear and you can delete one of the past installs in order to free up a slot for the new PC.  I'm not that familiar with Telus, but I would expect something similar to happen when you try to install on a 3rd PC.
