(This comment is aimed at Norton, I hope they monitor and review these forums).I agree heartily. Norton, please take note. You do not decide what software gets updated on my machine. I do. I just received the notification this morning that this feature has been added to my Norton product.
If the option to disengage this feature *entirely* is not present, I will not be renewing when my subscription comes up in October. I will be cancelling. There are plenty of other options, and again, I will not let you muck with my system, as you apparently intend to do. It will be the end of a 10-year relationship.

Turning off auto update on Software Updater does NOT disable the program from running in the background. There is no way to disable or remove it from Norton 360 at the present time. Norton dumped this mess on users with an outdated data base that recommends old versions of apps and indicates apps need to be updated or installed which some users have done and it broke their computers. This is a mess and Norton needs to LISTEN to it's users or they will be losing many long term customers!

We are happy to announce that we have introduced a user-controlled setting to Turn Off or Turn On Software Updater feature in Norton Security 22.22.4.11.
Note: This option is throttled.

And when will Canada get this "turn off" option? My system has no friendly green slider next to the product title. Hopefully when I can turn it off - waaaay long overdue!!!!!! - it will take its extra system load with it?

I am on 22.22.4.11 and, while I could not initially find this option to turn off it is under the Cog on the "My Norton" view and then under the option "Software Updater" just in case anyone else does not immediately work out where it is :-)

I found the options under the set-up cog, but my on/off switch for the whole thing hasn't appeared, just the 3 that have been there all along, "Auto-update", "Include programs..." and "Excluded Programs." I'm at 22.22.3.9, but I'm set to auto update versions, so should have the "latest" that has been released in Canada yet. Not current, though, compared to others and I'd really like to get there asap...
