Removing files from Norton Online Backup

I just want to make sure I correctly understand the result of removing files that have already been backed up by Norton Online Backup:

If I remove files from Norton Online Backup using the "Purge Files" command, will the files still remain on my PC or would they be removed from my PC as well?  My understanding is that the Purge command will remove those files from what was backed up by Norton Online Backup, but will NOT remove those files from my PC.  Is that correct?

Re: Removing files from Norton Online Backup

Hi SJCguy,

Purging files from online storage will only remove the online content. Any locally stored files will not be touched. Note however if the files you've purged remain selected for backup they'll get re-backed up the next time it runs. You'll have to exclude the content to prevent that from happening.

Also note once you start a purge it may take time to process. It has to go through all the various incremental backups performed and remove them, It isn't like deleting a file locally.

Re: Removing files from Norton Online Backup

Recommendation:  Revise the header of the "Purge Files" page -- the page that an owner is directed to after selecting the "Files Actions / Purge Files" command on the owner's NOBU main page. The header presently reads:  "Purge Files From Owner-PC".  Two people could easily read the header differently -- (1) purge files that are physically located on Norton's end that were uploaded from an owner's PC, or (2) purge files that are physically stored on an owner's PC, files that were uploaded to NOBU.  This forum and NOBU's help page make the distinction, but it would be much more convenient for the owner to understand the distinction up front without having to seek clarification.  Better wording of the header on the "Purge Files" page to improve clarification might be:  "Purge Files From Owner-PC (will not purge any files physically located on owner's PC)".

I'll pass along the suggestion to product development. Please see my other post in regards to any further suggestions.
