Removing redundant backup sets from on-line storage

How can I clear old backup sets from my on-line storage space?  I want to create a new backup set and all my allotted space is full, but all of the sets on it are now obsolete.  Cannot get onto online chat as error page comes up. I am having to use a portable hard disc to store my backup now which means that this product is useless for this function.

Re: Removing redundant backup sets from on-line storage

Hello DeeJayMac As long as more than one backup set is present you can follow these instructions: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v19828921_ns_backup_en_us

If only one exists unfortunately you will have to contact support. Try Twitter here: http://twitter.com/nortonsupport

Re: Removing redundant backup sets from on-line storage

Thanks @SoulAsylum, but when I follow that link I get a 502 Web Server Error page. I get the same thing when I click on the support link in My Norton.  I have no other web difficulties, so cannot figure this out!

Those links open perfectly for me on IE11. What browser are you using?

Re: Removing redundant backup sets from on-line storage

Thanks for coming back. Was using Chrome but tried IE and it worked. Unfortunately I had already deleted the backup sets in the app so it shows nothing but storage still 96 % used.  Will try contacting support tomorrow. Thanks again.

Indeed, support can fix the backend issue with the storage clearing for you. Please let us know your results and have a great weekend.

Re: Removing redundant backup sets from on-line storage

When you deleted the backup sets did you use the information from the second section of the KB article in SoulAsylum's post? ie Delete backup sets and files.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Removing redundant backup sets from on-line storage

@peterweb. No I had already done this before I sought help on the Community forum, and had created a new backup set on removable hard disk.  (In a panic, having recently had to hard reset and rebuild my data from backups!)  Then I found I had literally backed up too much online and had no space left.  Obviously I want to use online backup since I have bought it.  Will have to ask support to help me purge my old files, but in future will understand it better. Not very "with IT", me!

Re: Removing redundant backup sets from on-line storage

Right thanks everyone.I went to Support and got an on-line chat with the nice Thelmo Carlos. By giving remote control, I learned that the solution is to use Restore to re-synchronize the desktop app with the on-line storage so that you can identify the files in the cloud drive  backup sets and then delete them.  Worked well and I'm now secure in my backup.  I'm pleased with my forum and support experiences and have learned my lesson!

Great news. Glad hearing the contact support suggestion was your solution.
