Want to return my Core - lacking basic features like assigning static IP addresses

I want to return my Core due to the lack of what I thought were basic features like assigning static IP addresses. I called the Norton customer support and was given nothing but we will get back to you. If I knew this feature was not available in January I would not have ordered this router.  Now I have a router I cannot use and a bad feeling about Norton.

Re: Want to return my Core - lacking basic features like assigning static IP addresses

The link just leads to a Core Router return form you fill out mail back to Norton and then wait until they decide if you can return it.  I actually talked to one of their reps that said there is no way for them to print out return labels for the Core router yet and they will get back to me when they can.
If they would have been up front about the limitations they placed on their product I would not purchased it.  When they said " a powerful router for your connected home"  and "easy to manage" I thought it would have basic network management tools found on other routers at this price point plus Norton's built in security.

Try this Support Article.  Scroll down to the Norton Core section. It mentions you can contact Norton Support to initiate the return.   www.norton.com/contactcs

I have talked to their Customer Support and was told as of now there is no way for them to print out return labels for the Core. They said they would call me back after they decided if I can return it and they can print out return labels.

Thanks for the response. I'll have to call Customer Support and get on their list.

Just to close this out....I called Customer Support and explained why I wanted to return the Core. They connected me to a Billing Specialist. She was able to talk me through the RMA return process and answered all my questions. It's a shame I can't use the Core the way I wanted to. It's a good looking package and is fast and provides good coverage. I'll keep my eye out for V2.

I have to say.... the Norton people I have dealt with since I first powered up Core have been GREAT. They have the answers, of will find them, and they have been very professional and easy to work with.

Hi @Charlie64,

I'm sorry you are disappointed that you can't assign static IP addresses now. However, Benz, as stated here, has mentioned that this request is in our backlog and we will consider adding it in one of our future releases. Thanks.

Not so much disappointment as it makes the Core useless to me. I have devices that need static IPs and without them they will not work.

Correct me if I am wrong.

As an example, I have my network printer that I have assigned a static IP address in the printer hardware. I have my current router set to provide IPs through DHCP. But when I check my device list in the router, the printer always shows up with the IP I had assigned. So does a device with a designated IP not override any DHCP offerings?

It is always possible that the Core may not work the same way.

What devices are you trying to connect?

Re: Want to return my Core - lacking basic features like assigning static IP addresses

You should be able to assign static address in the same range that the Core assigns and it should work.

Re: Want to return my Core - lacking basic features like assigning static IP addresses

You cannot set static IP addresses at al with Core and you cannot select the range.  The only supposed way is to assign a forwarded port to a device which then reserves that address to a device.  The problem is I have devices that are in a different range and need static IPs. Something I can do with almost every personnel router sold today.  Norton has said it is on their backlog of ideas to implement in the future.

JYFI - I just tried to return my Core, which showed up yesterday... My reason for return is based on the same issues in this and other threads, and was apprised that their system assigning/creating RMA #'s is down and wont be available for a few days.  I'll get a phone call with the RMA and instructions.  Stay Tuned

Hi Gayathri,

I don't like to multi-post similar or duplicate comments/replies into different threads (even when their topics do overlap,) so to avoid doing that I'll just insert the permalink to another of my recent posts, on a topic about allowing the Core's IP base-address "allocations pool" to be defined.

Anyway, I tried to cover my own concerns regarding that topic, and as it turns out, this topic (unknowingly) at the same time. FWIW, I feel these separate communicated topics are actually codependent, fundamental router necessities, anyway:

So - In order for me to consider continuing to "stick with" owning a Core device, it is imperative that a quick and guaranteeing answer be given by Norton/Symantec as to whether or not a "not too distant" remediation to these shortcomings is in the works for the very immediate future.

And if either is not to be, then please be forthright and just tell us so now, so that those of us who must have these very basic router functions may move on with returning our Cores for a refund.

Many Thanks,

John

Re: Want to return my Core - lacking basic features like assigning static IP addresses

Still no response from Norton, what a waste of my money and time this has turned out to be. I guess I have learned my lesson and will not buy anything from Symantec/Norton again. I will also pass on to anyone who listens to me not to purchase anything from them either. For a company to just blow people off over and over again is not acceptable.

Re: Want to return my Core - lacking basic features like assigning static IP addresses

I was able to contact Norton and initiate a return very easily.  Try using this form to get a number to contact as it worked for me.

Like everyone on this thread I am really disappointed as I was looking forward to using this router.

Gayathri, This is great news! Is there a new level of firmware and/or app software being rolled to add this support?
