Saving or Backing-up your Identity Safe details

A friend has just emailed me. Wanting to back-up his Identity Safe, he searched here for what to do. He said he couldn't find anything - all of the results found related to how to deal with problems when backing up and not how to back-up. I've just tried to re-create his search and he's right.

So, in the hope that it may help someone else coming here in the future, I've created this thread so that a seach in the Community will find it.

Solution:

Step 1: Go to this link  https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/norton-identity-safe/current/solutions/v71133085_identity_safe_standalone_1_en_us?q=how+do+I+back-up+my+identity+safe+

Step 2: Take the 'save as CSV' option - this gives you your Log-on IDs and Passwords in plain english in an Excel spreadsheet. You can use this for a number of other reasons. My main use is to check that there have been no changes made to my data.

Step 3: Then take the 'save as DAT' option. You won't be able to view the results - it's computer-speak gibberish but you'll need it if you ever need to load that info again.

Step 4: Perhaps the most important step - when you've opened the page to which the above link takes you, save that page in your favourites - you're bound to need it again!

This is written by a non-tecnical person (   as you all know!) so would some of the helpful experts here add to and/or amend it, please?

Thanks

Re: Saving or Backing-up your Identity Safe details

Mt friend has just rung me again. He can't find the cog mentioned in the second paragraph of the link ("click settings icon that is denoted by a cog wheel") and neither could I so can I add this PS, please:

To find the Settings icon, click on the Norton yellow globe icon, then the 'Advanced' cog icon (not the 'Manage' icon). Then click on 'Identity Safe' under 'Web Protection'. Click on the cog item at the bottom and follow the rest of the advice in the link, where you'll see the CSV and DAT options.

PS As above, would our experts here please feel free to add to/edit this. Perhaps different versions of the product show different icons (or perhaps the advice in the link was correct at the time and now needs updating?).

Re: Saving or Backing-up your Identity Safe details

Hi Taffy_078,

We have a KB document which has information on backing up and exporting your Identity Safe data.

I want to back up or export my Identity Safe Vault data

Kindly let us know if this helps you.

Thanks,

Kumar

Re: Saving or Backing-up your Identity Safe details

Thanks bjm. Thanks too Kumar. Your KB link takes us to a document dated 6th November 2014 so is more up to date than the link I posted - that's for an article dated 21st January 2014.

But I'm very pleased that I've actually achieved my objective! If you search in the community for how to back up your Identity Safe, this thread appears so no-one will (or should) have any problems in the future when they want to know what to do.

PS Kumar - perhaps someone should review the advice in the January 2014 article? Imho, it needs to be updated or removed?

Thanks again, as usual, for your help. What a community!
