Scam Garmin Update Coinbase -

While trying to update my Garmin GPS a message stating that I had a virus and problems with updates to my computer to be solved before I could update the Garmin. I tryed to notify Garmin ( Rachael was agent ) and during the chat on line she hung up. Later my wife said an agent from Garmin had called, Mike and he would call back in 20 minutes. At that time he called and said I had problems with updates to my system and the Garmin and he needed access to my computer to do. I went through the steps he gave on phone and he asked for a payment, I asked to use paypal, he said they only take credit cards, so I gave him my Credit Card info on line and he said they would be checking payment by taking $1.00 out of my account. Then he said to go to my bank account to verify payment, which sent a flag to my Norton Anti Virus Program and it popped up that it was a scam. I cut off computer and cancelled credit card. They had charged $1.00 three times. Now I am concerned that my financial information has been compromised and these scammers may steal or my wifes ID. Need to know a course of action to take and also warn others about this.

Re: Scam Garmin Update Coinbase -

This happened to me yesterday. They told me I had hackers on my computer and that they disabled things and this is why the drivers were corrupt. They said they could fix it which was very suspicious so we declined. Still need to truly understand what is actually going on and if we really do have a compromised machine. It felt like it was all scripted and I was pressured to act right away. The phone went dead the second they realized I wasn’t buying anything.

Re: Scam Garmin Update Coinbase -

I purchased the lifetime update option when I purchased my Garmin. I have updated before with no issues. This past weekend I attempted the update, but the programming did not start when I selected to run. I called for assistance. I was told by the associate, who sounded like he was in Dubai, that he needed access to my system to proceed. He then said my Garmin had viruses that had infected my computer. There was failure after failure popping up when he tried to update. He then insisted I take his name and direct line, as no one could help but him. He asked what State I was calling from. He said I would need to update each State manually. I advised I had never had to update by State before. I travel the entire country. He then attempted to sell me an insurance policy. He said this virus was now in all of my phones, all tablets, laptops, kindles, etc. that I owned. I told him I no longer felt secure, insisted he close his access to my computer, that I no longer granted him privileges, and to transfer me to his supervisor. It appeared initially that's what he was doing, but instead he hung up on me. I have not had time to do any further work on this issue.
