Scam through 800 number

I called the Norton 800 number that was on their internet site. I wanted to cancel my subscription for 5 users and get the Antivirus for 1 user. I pressed the button to select the option I wanted. Someone came on the line and asked me what I wanted to do. They said no problem. Next thing I know they wanted me to let them go into my computer to process the refund. No way was this happening. After hanging up, I looked up the phone number that I was connected to. I found that I was not connected to the 800 number I dialed. I was connected to a Missouri phone number, 816-394-9160. Don’t know how this could have happened when I used an 800 number from the Norton website. Interested to know if anyone else has had this occur.

what Norton website?
Did you go to 'support.norton.com' or did you use link from search results? 

Norton Official Support is via Chat or Phone.  No Email support. 
Support request generates case number/identity verification code.
Chat Support offers save & print transcript.

the only thing i can think of as a possible reason for the issue is that you might of got the number from doing a search which will result in several ( if not many ) so called support numbers ( for a price of course they will help you)

and not the actual correct norton support number

not sure how it was possibe to get another number without it being forwarded by that number ( call forwarding)

not something i have experienced so hard to say what happened

I have been trying to remember that information. I am searching to see if I can find it. Used to be I could sign into At&T and see the numbers I dialed. They don’t have that anymore. Will let you know if I find the information. Thought I was on an actual legitimate Norton website.

The number I called was 188.834.70872, still looking for the website I got this number from.

Thank you for the information. There site for sure is not where I found the number I called. Definitely not doubting you. I am quite sure the site I was on showed a site like Norton’s. Next time I called I will be sure to document everything. Thanks again.
