Scan and backup Won't Start

I've installed the Norton Online backup successfully on to my new Dell All-In-One computer with Windows 7 multiple times and it never does anything other that stating "files scanned 0" or "Awaiting backup agent".   What do I need to get Online backup started on this computer?  My old computer with Norton Online back up worked fine and I'd like to get files off it and on to the new  Dell All-In-One computer.  I also have another Dell with Windows XP computer that is backing up just fine.

I have this same problem.  I have rebooted and reinstalled but I just get the same message.

Hello jimboh20s,

Based on the info you've given it sounds like the desktop agent isn't able to make a connection to the web back end. There is likely something blocking the communication from taking place. Basically in order for the scanning and in turn backup or restore to work it has to be able to successfully have two way communication to and from your computer.

Are you using any specific security programs such as a firewall or malware application?

Is the computer going into hibernation or sleep between the time you try the scanning/backup and the awaiting agent message?

I successfully used this product on one of my other computers on the same home network ( I have a 5 computer license).  The only difference between the two computers was one was running Norton 360 and this one is running Norton Internet Security.  So far I am not overwhelmed with this product.

Both products will work fine with Norton Online Backup. What versions of N360 and NIS are you using? Do you have a hardware firewall in place in addition to those products?

I am running Norton 360 Ver 5.1.0.29 on my laptop which is a wireless connectoion to me network and Internet Security Version 19.2.0.10 on my desktop which is a wired connection both to my Fritz Box router.  No true hardware firewall.

Your Fritz Box actually has a built in firewall like most routers on the market. It doesn't list any configurable options or details in its user guide. I think we need to do a remote support session via Tier 3 to diagnose further. Check your private message for the contact details.

Get the same problem, and lots of others previous to this.  I decided to try BT backup and that works very well, quickly and is easy to use, you get 50 Gb storage and costs £4.99 / month.

10/10 for Nortons though, there was no problem in getting refund.
