Secure VPN blocks banking apps; makes necessary to reboot phone often

I'm using secure VPN on my samaung S8. It causes several of my apps to not connect. Banking apps, Google won't update discovery, bing search won't perform, Netflix uses the wrong language to play back videos. I get error messages occasionally telling me the VPN is overloading the CPU. I'm not really happy with the performance issues. Having to reboot is a hassle and shouldn't be necessary and having to shut down the VPN to use apps and online services defeats the purpose. Frankly, I'd like my money back.

You can request a refund up to 60 days of your purchase. If you purchased from Google Play Store, you need to request the refund from there. If you purchased directly from Norton you contact Norton Support to make the request.   www.norton.com/contactcs

What Android version is on your device?

As for the issues you are seeing.

  • What bank's app is giving you problems when you use Secure VPN?
  • Netflix may be using the language of the virtual location you have set in Secure VPN. What language is the content being presented in, and what is the virtual location being used by Secure VPN?
  • Can you clarify ", Google won't update discovery"?
  • Are you saying Bing searches do not provide results? What browser are you using when this happens?
  • I have never seen a message about overloading the CPU. If you see that again, please try to capture a screenshot and post it here.

What bank's app is giving you problems when you use Secure VPN? Bank of America Corning Crdit Union Personal Capital Edward Jones Netflix may be using the language of the virtual location you have set in Secure VPN. What language is the content being presented in, and what is the virtual location being used by Secure VPN? I never set a language preference as I recall. And dont know where to change it. Appears to be French. Can you clarify ", Google won't update discovery"? Google Discover is basically their newsfeeds that update each time the app is opened Are you saying Bing searches do not provide results? What browser are you using when this happens? Basically the news feeds. However searches get blocked as well. Bing app for Android. I have Android 8.0.0. also there is no apparent mechanism to request a refund from the play Store. I successfully "cancelled" the subscription, but that only stops the renewal from occurring next year. Norton kept my money and I'm stick with a service I will not use. I posted a feedback on the store site for the app, but no response.

When you open the VPN app, it shows what country you are connected to. Does it match your actual country? If not, tap on the second icon at the bottom of the screen and a list of countries will come up. Scroll down to your country and select that. Then test all the sites you were having trouble with.

You will still have the full protection provided by the VPN service.

Regarding the refund. Did you purchase directly from Norton or from the Google Store?

I double checked the location setting. It shows US. Banking apps will work but still require reboot or vpn off from time to time. Netflix still speaks French even with correct location setting.

FYI. Google Play doesn't typically give refunds after a 48 hour period for app purchases.

Norton does have a 60 day money back guarantee. So if you have no joy requesting a refund from Google Play, use the Norton Support contact to see what they can do.

Do the banking apps occasionally work with the VPN active? If they never work, it is possible that the bank does not allow VPN access to their web sites. Contact the bank's web support to ask if this is the case. There are many web sites around the world that are able to detect VPN use and block access for different reasons. (Legal issues???)
