Secure VPN error - Secure VPN has experienced a connection failure. Please try again.

After if run Live Update I get the error (Secure VPN has experienced a connection failure. Please try again.) I waited and retried later. Still the same error. The only way to fix it was to uninstall/reinstall the Norton program. This resolved the issue for a couple of days and keeps coming back. I did the uninstall/reinstall 3 times. How do I fully fix this issue? I am running WN 20H2 64-bit.

Have you tried disconnecting from the network you experienced the error on and then reconnecting?

Yes I did try disconnecting from the network and did not resolve the issue. Thanks though.

Is this a wifi network at home?

It might be related to your router or possibly your ISP. You might try researching your router's website for any info or calling your ISP. If the network is a home secured network (nobody outside devices have access and it is password protected and encrypted) then you do not need the VPN for security. Although it can mask your IP address if that is important to you.

Yes, it is a home-secured network. It was just an added (in my mind) protection I think I need. I will not worry about it for now. Thanks! However, it made no sense that when I uninstall/reinstall it worked for days with my network. So I thought it must be something wrong with the Norton 360 updated program.

It could be Norton for sure but these connection issues are very complex and there are many possibilities. Good Luck with your problem.

I believe the SecureVPN issue or outage was prevalent for many Norton users, because I experienced the outage with the connection errors for multiple hours on both Windows 10 19042.906 Version 20H2, and on iOS 14.4.2, and I know another Norton user with a different ISP from mine and he had the same connection errors.

Thanks for your help. I do appreciate it. I went ahead and did another uninstall/reinstall and it worked until this morning. It went back to the error. I will live with it for now. I know my system is safe. Again, Thanks!

Also, if I might, I would like to offer that within Windows Microsoft using EventViewer to look at Event Signatures you can find reasons for RAS/PPP/IPSec connection failures. Sometimes the event signature description is not helpful, but the RRAS Microsoft manual which can be downloaded will expand on IPSec/SecureVPN connection failures. In Event Viewer under the Application events you will find RAS CLIENT events, you might want to review these as well as the WFP/IKE event signatures under "WFP" in Event Viewer. I have found these and the Microsoft RRAS online/downloadable for free manual quite helpful. Since SecureVPN uses IPSec and all of its "plumbing" these event signatures and manual will help further clarify what the connection errors are instead of the NortonLifeLock 360 MSGBOX Error 809 which in hexadecmial is: 0x329. I hope that this added information might be of use to some.
