security check

Why is my Norton 360 checking my GPU for mining viability? I find this to be very intrusive on my personal computer. You are snooping on my computer.

Re: security check

At least they told you that they are snooping.

In all honesty I think it is just informative and a check to see if your GPU meets requirements. Probably done by the crypto program as a matter of routine.

Is this just at startup or does it check throughout the day? I will look for entries in my history now also.

Re: security check

My history shows no entries for a GPU check.

I do have a GPU that meets minimum requirements and the banner shows "Turn your PCs idle time into cash" but I am not running the mining program (and never will). My PC stays on 24/7 and of course at times I do need a restart.

Re: security check

The check for Crypto Mining is the very last option in the History drop down list on my system.

Re: security check

When I click on "Crypto mining" in history I get "There are currently no entries to view for this category".

When I click on "Full history" in history I see no entries for Crypto.

@xjoex
Maybe, a change from Norton?
My Registry Cleanup stopped populating noise.  Maybe, Crytpo Mining stopped...too?

Re: security check

As of 12/29/2021 still no history entries for me concerning crypto mining GPU check.  I feel a little neglected right now...

Re: security check

as test: I renamed NCrypt.exe -> NCrypt.exe123

Q:) Why does Norton keep checking for a viable GPU that can support crypto mining.
A:) Norton thinks users will change/upgrade their GPU for a GPU that can support crypto mining.

I'm not finding a related scheduled task.  I guess the GPU check is baked in.

Re: security check

Finally got my message in history today.

"GPU mining viabilty check passed". Glad to know I am not being neglected.
