Simple Workaround for Norton ID Safe Login/Create a New Account Dialog Errors

After many weeks, I am finally able to login to my online vault from my admin account with a very simple step.  When first opening the N360 Task Dialog box (perhaps this is similar enough for NS users having login problems) if at the top right of the box your e-mail address displays as "Signed in as "xxxx@xxx.com, Click on your e-mail address and a dialog box displays "Are you Sure you want to Sign out?.  Click sign out and then sign back in with your Norton Account password (NOT your vault password). Then the 'Vault Closed' dialog box appears for you to enter your Vault password. Once entered, your vault will open quickly.

Before this I was always leaving the existing dialog box that displayed Signed in as xxx@xxx.com (e-mail address) and then clicking on the Identity Icon within the main dialog box which opened the drop down menu to login to Identity Safe. This always led to the larger Sign in / Create a New Account dialog box that requested a users email address and then a Norton Account Password.  The problem is, users in this situation are already signed in to their Norton Accounts and they were then trying to sign in again which resulted in the warnings that their account was closed because of multiple login attemps and/or that their password was incorrect.

I also just did this with my non-admin account and it works.  Therefore, if login problems errors occur, sign out of your account at the top right of your main dialog box and then sign in again with your Norton Account password  Your vault will then display for your vault password.   Norton should simply do away with the second method of signing in to an account.

I got this idea from a Guru somewhere within all of the comments I have read herein over the past week.  If I can find the thread, I will acknowledge his help.

The "Signed in as" is designed to keep a user signed into their Norton Account (even through a reboot).  This enables the user to merely have to sign into their Vault using the Vault is Closed button on the Norton Toolbar.  It can't be made much simpler than this other than auto log in to vault when windows opens - which is not an option with a Cloud (Online )Vault.

It is possible to do as you say (Sign out of you Norton Account and then sign back in) to be used from time to time - can possibly work with other Settings within Norton products as well, but there is no guarantee it will always work.

Also you mentioned it worked for a non-admin user account also.  Could you please tell us if Settings > Administrative Settings > Product Security > Non-Admins Access to Settings is turned ON?  If so that would explain that part of it working.

I do not have N 360/NIS available any longer, but the newer NS/NSBU works a bit differently in that it no longer displays your email address, but displays your name, and goes through a subscription check prior to permitting your to sign into your Norton Account.

One thing I did catch is that you are using the Identity Square drop down on the main page to open your vault.  Do you have the Norton Toolbar displayed and have you tried to use the Vault is closed button on it while you are Signed in as: and just enter your Vault password when requested.  Do you have the NTB disabled for some reason?

Yes, however, if you do that ensure that you have a strong password set to allow changing critical Norton settings with added security.  For many years I did not have that feature enabled and I always had a backlog of tasks waiting at the end of the day when I Restarted to my Admin account since I do most of my daily computer use within my non-admin account.

Yes, I tried that for about 2 weeks when I began having continuous N ID Safe problems (months with my Admin account). Sometimes it worked but most often it hung, vanished, gave me error messages, et cetera,  ad infinitum. Ironically it never worked with my Admin account but it did work sometimes with my non-admin account.  The problems were widespread and inconsistent.

Logging out and then logging in as I have stated fixed most of my Identity Safe problems.  From now on, I will occassionally log out/in with this method to clear the cache.  It might be similar to someone being signed-in to their computer for days on end and never restarting, which can sometimes cause problems.  I have found that restarting at least once each day works best for me.

Finally, I made the logout/login changes yesterday. Today -- in both my Admin and non-admin accounts -- all I have to do is click on the Vault is Closed menu of my Norton Toolbar and I am immediately prompted to sign-in to my Closed Vault (as it is supposed to work). After entering my password, my online vault now opens exceptionally fast.

Thanks for the feedback RK_L - hopefully things will continue to work properly.

I now understand why you can login with a non-admin account (the setting we discussed) , and hopefully you will stay logged into your Norton Account (as is supposed to occur) and are just prompted for your Vault Password.  BTW - I shut down my systems over night, so they get rebooted regularly.

Update:  All of my Identity Safe functions are working flawlessly, including autofill (before I had to copy/paste my information).  I want to clarify that this is where I logged out and logged back in with my Norton Account password since logging-in to the main Norton account website and/or Norton Studio/Manage account et cetera did not fix my issues -- which included just about every problem others here have experienced.

Just to verify - you only did it once and you have remained logged into your Norton Account ever since?

Or do you have to sign out and sign back in every reboot?

Re: Simple Workaround for Norton ID Safe Login/Create a New Account Dialog Errors

Yes Sir, a one-time login (after several test attempts to verify that both accounts were a GO) and after 2 full computer shutdowns and at least 4 Restarts, I remain logged-in to both accounts and ID Safe is as fast and dependable as it ever was.

I only added the image to ensure that users used that specific logout/Login method because the other methods did not work for me.  When I first got the idea of logging out with this method from another user (a GURU i think, although I have read so many posts over the past week regarding ID Safe problems ) I scoffed at the thought that such a a simple action like that could make any difference with the myriad of issues I had. I could have saved myself 5 days or more of problems had I took his advice.

I should note that since I have had N360 on this new computer for about 6+ months, I have only logged out/in using the dialog box (imaged above) once or twice, at most.

Thanks for the feedback - actually, that is the way the Norton Account sign-in is supposed to work - stay logged in thru multiple reboots etc!
